Maybe this is TMI but...

FutureMrsTrevino, on August 13, 2017 at 6:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

Will anyone be on their period during their wedding?

I recently got an IUD, and it seems that I just won't stop flowing. I'm concerned that I'll be experiencing this on my wedding day and/or on my honeymoon. I just don't want it to hinder what I want to do.

Any thoughts?

Call your doctor ASAP! That doesn't sound normal to me.

Please talk to your OBGYN. I have an IUD as well and my OBGYN told me excessive bleeding can be in relation to how they inserted it and to call her if that happened. You know your periods best, but if it's bleeding way more than usual, then contact your doctor. I hope it gets better soon!

ETA: Can you define what "flowing" means? Is it just like being on your period every day or worse?

I bled almost constantly for 6 months with Mirena (hormonal) and about 2 months with Paragard (copper), Doctor's say it can take up to 6 months for your body to adjust to it.

@Ashley, chill out. Don't freak people out unless you know your facts.

I'm irregular and worried I'll start around my big day too. I've heard something like the diva cup is great though. I thought about using one of those along with those special period panties to feel extra secure.

They also sell the bridal buddy for $40 which lets you hold your dress up on your own to use the bathroom. Good luck!

Lol Ashley - jumping the gun a bit.

"Flowing", in my experience, can be equated to a light period. There are days when it is virtually not there. However, there are days when I need a tampon. It's not excessive, a panty liner takes care of it usually. Just a super huge nuisance!

I'm hoping my body figures this crap out in the next 27 days... Smiley sad

ETA: I've had the IUD for 5 weeks.

Gushing and spotting are two very different things.

Spotting is normal after an IUD.

Please don't make people panic Ashley.

I haven't been on a IUD nor am I a doctor so can't help with that part. However, I was on my period during my wedding and it was just fine. I used my regular tampons and took a pain med for cramps like I would any cycle.

I had the Mirena and had my period for 3 months! I kept going back to the dr because I didn't think it was normal but everything was. They say it's your body trying to adjust to something foreign. Give it time but you may be on it for your honeymoon.

Oh also, I didn't answer the question. Yes I should have mine for the wedding. When we picked the day I wasn't set to but a lot of things changed in the last 16 months. I'll just go with the flow; pun intended!

@OP, did you get the Paragard? If so, unfortunately heavy bleeding during your period is quite normal the first six months or so. After that timeframe, spotting from ovulation until your period is to be expected.

I'm close enough now to prettty much know I won't be on mine and I'm relieved. I get near debilitating cramps and bad bloating and am exhausted from all the pain and meds so I am really really glad I don't have to deal with it.

I'll probably be on mine during the honeymoon, which sucks. Praying that it will be late in the non-pregnant way.

I got the Liletta, a smaller version of Mirena. Maybe I'll just have to go with the flow as FaithD said...

I won't tell you my horror story with Mirena because that's not what you asked ...

But yes, I will be on my period.

You should talk to your provider about your concerns. My OBGYN had options for me to not be on my period on our wedding and honeymoon. You should also make sure the bleeding (hopefully it's just spotting) is "normal" and there's no other problems going on. Personally I don't feel bleeding is ever normal (except for your normal level of blood for your monthly cycle). The pill made me bleed and I promptly stopped it and didn't my research, I won't ever go back again! I'll be on my period for the last half of our honeymoon. It'll be a pain but oh well! Better then life-threatening symptoms.

I will just be finishing up my period on the wedding day. By Sunday it's usually totally done so hopefully it'll be super light on the wedding night. Ugh I don't wanna think about changing a tampon in that dress lol.

I'll (hopefully) be on the tail end of mine. I love my diva cup when I can get it in correctly! I definitely wouldn't recommend trying it for the first time for your wedding though, as it is a bit difficult to get the hang of and sometimes needs adjusting.

My bleeding stopped after about six weeks after my IUD, and since then my periods have been very light and more predictable. My former roommate, however, bled lightly for about 3 months before it let up. Here's hoping yours lets up soon! If not, at least it's light and you can do most (or all!) activities while spotting!
