MAY 26, 2012 Brides? Any Holiday weekend brides?

Nicole, on September 26, 2011 at 4:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

I am starting to worry about my choice to have my wedding Memorial day weekend. I am afraid that people may not want to come beacuse of the holiday... any advice or words of comfort?

Eek sorry, I opted against the holiday weekend, plane tickets were a little cheaper the following weekend and it was better for my family/bridal party.

I'd suggest getting the STDs out soon so that people don't make plans for vacations, they'll appreciate the advance notice.

If you care about your guests you will change the date, I know both my FW and I have big time Memorial Day traditions with our friends/family that actually cause us to spend the holiday apart.

I am a holiday weekend bride as well. July 6 is the Friday right after 4th of July (Wed). I have already told most of my family the date via word of mouth and have my save the dates, I plan on sending them as soon as I can collect everyone's addresses.

Like Sami B. said give as much notice as possible to everyone you can. Since the holiday is two days before my wedding, I'm planning on having like a casual barbeque or an outing to go watch fireworks so that guests who are coming in from out of town will still be able to celebrate.

I made my wedding the thursday before Memorial weekend. Cheaper for one thing plus it gives people the whole weekend still for their own plans. Plus I assume that most that come will use my wedding as a reason to get Friday off as well and give themselves a 4 day weekend instead of 3!!!!!!

My wedding is May 25th, just the day before you. I was stuck with that weekend due to other circumstances out of my control. You just need to come to terms with the fact that some people have family traditions for that weekend and not everyone will be able to come. It's just one of those things about holiday weekends.

If it is really a big deal or concerns you, changing the date is always an option, I just see it as a way to cut costs since not as many people will be able to attend : )

Our wedding was the day before Memorial Day this year on a Sunday. We had an evening reception. Most of our family was only an hour away at most so travel was not a problem for them. It worked out better using the holiday weekend because everyone had more time and didn't have to rush to work the next day. Of course there were some who weren't able to attend, but we still had a lot show. It turned out great and didn't have any problems. We even ended up going to a bar after the reception was over with some family and friends to continue partying. lol.

We don't have many people coming in from out of town and most of our family spend the holiday together I am more concerned with the close friends aspect, alot of them like to go to Miami or Myrtle Beach that weekend. I guess if they care they will be here if not then oh well...

    Wedding day twin Smiley smile

I am not changing my date at all. We chose the date specifically because of the holiday weekend....so that folks who come from out of town will have the extra two days to "rest" before they have to go back to work...Both sides of our familes are like 5 hours away....If they care enough, the people who are invited, will be there. If they don't show up, invite someone else LOL Smiley smile Our STD's are going out next month...

Hope it works out and you have an AMAZING day! Like others already said, send out the invites early so ppl can plan for your wedding. Maybe try sending out RSVPs and change the date accordingly. Smiley smile Hope that helps!

I do holiday weekend weddings every year; in fact next May 27th was the first date that we booked out for next year. I can't remember a wedding on a holiday that had serious attendance problems. It IS a family get together, and the extra day is a great bonus. But I would send out STD's early so people know how to plan, AND you get advance notice of who can't come.

I'm doing mine the weekend before a holiday weekend. Like Jillian, I'm using the holiday as an excuse for family to get together. Most of our guests are coming from OOT, and we're not leaving on our honeymoon right away, so we hope guests can spend a few more days enjoying Alaska

Don’t worry about the date, as a planner that is one of the 1st Saturdays I get booked it is a busy weekend and in some cases work to your advantage for savings. Your family and friends love you and will be there, don’t worry about the turnout. You’ll be marrying the love of your life.

If you are not going on a honeymoon right after have a family cookout and make it a fun with games and all.

I got married Memorial day weekend. We had family that came from Atl, NC and Cape Cod. We planned it way in advance and let me tell you we made a fun filled wkn out of it. Friday after rehearsal everyone went out and enjoyed their self, only because I had a 5 p.m. wedding. We had a awesome time the day of the wedding and wedding night we partied. The Sunday after the wedding we gathered together and went out for Karaoke what a blast. Monday we had a family cook out that everyone pitched in for and by Tuesday I was done. Now my family has something to look forward to on that holiday wknd cause they think every year we gonna party.. Which we will. We honored my deceased grandfather who was in the war and it was very emotional. So I say Make that weekend one to remember for you and your future husband.

My wedding is May 26 as well and I let all the people that I was going to invite a year in advance that the weekend was a holiday weekend. If people hear that it is a wedding they will come. Nicole All You Need To Do Is Make Sure That You and Your future Husband Has a Great Time On That Day. Those that come, come!!!!! Congrates and it will be a blessed day!
