Let Them Eat (anything But) Cake

SomethingBluth, on March 14, 2018 at 4:10 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 72
So I literally could not care less about having a cake. It's silly expensive. And with all of the other great dessert options that I've seen at weddings I've been to (crepes, waffle bars, sundaes, pastries, etc), the cake never seems to be the thing that people actually want to eat. How do other people feel? Does anyone have an opinion in favor of having a cake apart from the tradition?

I’m leaning towards having a small cake for the traditional cake cutting and then a dessert/cupcake bar. I don’t care much about cake either and don’t really want to spend over $2,000 on something I don’t care much about.

We're having cheesecakes at our wedding! Neither of us like regular cake and the cheesecakes turned out to be a fraction of the cost of a traditional wedding cake. We're also having a small wedding (50 guests).

We’ve thought about cheesecake too! My family tries to stay away from colorants because they aren’t good for you, and my sister is allergic to them. Which makes cheesecake a great alternative (and I’m a cheesecake fiend. It’s just so good!)

Daughter is having a small cutting cake and then we're doing a dessert bar that will include (at a minimum) donuts, cake pops and macarons. We're working on the rest of the list.

We are having a cake, but also an ice cream sundae bar. I’m not a big fan of cake, but I still want the photos and to have it for guests if they want.

I prefer cake. Also, if the couple cuts a cake, I expect to be able to have cake. The whole idea behind the cake is that the couple is sharing their first dessert as a married couple with everyone there. Don’t cut a cake if you don’t plan to have cake for guests.

I love cake and I especially love traditional wedding cake, but I think as long as you have something sweet you will be fine.

as far as price though, have you shopped around? I know places like Publix make beautiful wedding cakes for great prices. I’m not sure how much cheaper setting up a dessert bar/ hiring someone to make crepes/ making waffles fresh would be ?

I would love cheesecake over cake! Cheese cake is amazing. When ever my mom makes it for the holidays, I always beg her to make one just for me so I do not have to share.

But we are having a cake. The venue that we booked is our crater and our baker all on site. We paid so much a plate per person and the cake is included in the price! We just have to figure out what we want. He said their baker can make anything and will recreate anything even if we find in on Pinterest.

We're not having cake. Neither of us care for it. We Are having cupcakes of all sorts of flavors though for those that do want cake. And being a Pittsburgh bride of course we're doing a cookie table!

I don't like cake but in May we are trying so many different flavors so hopefully some of the flavors will be good. One flavor I am looking forward to trying is an orange cake with a pineapple and passion fruit filling. I love pineapple and passion fruit so that sounds amazing. However we are discussing having other desserts available as I know at least one other person attending doesn't like cake. Some of the things we are considering are cake pops, cheesecake, a sundae bar, and some black tie mousse cakes from olive garden cause those are amazing.

I like having cake at weddings. I also agree with OG Gretchen that waffles and crepes are not dessert substitutes.

We're having cake along with a dessert bar that includes several different cookies and brownies. I

I always thought people “came of the cake”
I don’t eat cake often so it’s something I look forward to

We are having the bride's and groom cake --- cake is a big DEAL in our family so it's a must. But, we will also be having a Viennese table for those who don't want just cake.

We weren't having a cake, but his aunt insisted and bought it for us. If she didn't we were just going to do cupcakes or something. Now that she got it, I am excited about cutting the cake together and saving th top tier for the first year anniversary. But its not a necessity if you don't want to get one

I super look forward to opportunities to eat cake. I feel like other desserts are appropriate any time, at least I have them more often. Cake is celebratory. I'd he happy yo be offered any dessert, but I definitely prefer cake.

We got enough cake for everyone using a newer baker in the dc area we are paying about $300 which is unheard of to feed like 180. She does great work, but it wasn’t something I cared about. We have a dessert table, with a cheese bar and that’s what I cared about! Well I actually cared the most about the late night snacks hahahahaha. We aren’t even cutting the cake. We will sneak off and do it, we just don’t won’t to be bothered.

Op do what you want. I would eat your waffles and crepes!

We are skipping the traditional cake too! I think as long as you offer a sweet dessert you are fine.

We haven't decided yet on our late night dessert but, are leaning towards individual bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cake. If not we may do a dessert bar with brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and other mini desserts. The venue provides dessert with dinner and we will be having oreo cheesecake then.

A coworker is also skipping the cake and she is doing an ice cream bar and donut wall. It sounds delicious and I would love to do an ice cream bar too but, FH is lactose intolerant so that won't really work.

I love cake and always look forward to it. My mom also insisted on us having cake because all of her friends always complain if they go to a wedding and don't have any cake options.
