Lanterns?

Anna, on January 17, 2018 at 9:06 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 17
I’m planning on getting married on Halloween and I was wondering if it would be weird or tacky to have the bridesmaids carry lanterns down the aisle rather than bouquets. https://www.flickr.com/photos/oldworldwisconsin/4745664969/ I have some similar to these within easy access for me.

Will it be dark for your ceremony? If not, the lanterns won't really have much of an effect.

It’s not going to be pitch black, but I’d say it would be about dusk dark. I’m going to have the lights turned down for the March and then they will be adjusted back up for the vows and stuff. My mother and I are working on the lighting for the photography. These lanterns actually burn extremely bright, since they are oil. It’s a lot brighter than a regular candle.

I love that idea! I think it will set the tone for a calm romantic ceremony.

I think that would add a really cool element! It’s something unique. This is slightly off topic, but I actually just saw some really cool wedding cake toppers for Halloween and thought since your wedding was Halloween you might like them. I’m putting one of the new ones as an example below. Smiley smile https://jwcaketops.com/jw-blog/may1.html

Oops that link may not take you directly to it. But it should be on that page. It’s called “The Last Dance” and has two skeletons dancing

Thank you so much Kelsey!!!! I will take any ideas I can get. I’m basically working off my own imagination for this one! My family kinda has a thing for holidays for wedding dates. My aunt did the Fourth of July and my brother did Saint Patricks Day.

Before you get your heart set on oil lanterns, talk with your venue. Most venues I know wouldn't allow oil lanterns due to the risk of fire.

I think candle lanterns would be lovely. Add some flowers around the top of the lantern to keep them from looking too stark.

Omg yes! i think they would add to the atmosphere beautifully! i would do candle ones since some venues have problems with lit flames, and maybe decorate them up a bit, depending on real vs fake candles, and the kind/size of the lantern Smiley smile check with your venue to see if they would work, but i think its a great idea.

My family owns the place. I’m not wanting to use candles lanterns as I already have oil ones and think it would be pointless to waste money when I already have a viable option.

I actually have those lanterns, and I use them for our annual Halloween haunted house! I love the idea PP mentioned about adding some flowers on the top, I think it will be really pretty!
