KWR: (Honeymoon) Anyone been to the Atlantis?

rusticbride, on January 8, 2014 at 7:43 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9

I've read the Trip Advisor reviews... would love opinions from here. Yes, we know it's expensive. If you did go, did you take advantage of any water related activities (dolphin/string ray encounters, snorkeling, etc.)? How did you like everything overall?

We went in November for a day while on a cruise. It was fun, but not worth the money imo. If you are interested in swimming with sting rays, look into grand Cayman. I wouldn't swim with an animal in captivity.

We were there last month for the wedding, the hotel is amazing, lots to do. We didn't have the opportunity to take advantage of the water activities because of being busy with the wedding. We will definitely go back to experience more of the hotel and what they have to offer. Like Karley mentioned Grand Cayman has sting rays not in captivity and that is an amazing opportunity.

Here's an island secret. You can stay at Comfort Suites (which is basically on the property) for about $100 a night (I believe it includes breakfast) AND you get all access to the Atlantis facilities. I have friends who live there and turned me on to this little trick.

Oh - I forgot. I went and gambled at the casino with my niece, who won over $500 in the slots.

I was there in July and we are staying there for our wedding in Nassau. The resort in great with so much to do. I recommend other things off the resort also. For lunch, you can get a burger, fries, and a drink for $10. I wouldn't eat dinner there. The food isn't great and it's overpriced. The pizza joint by the marina is really good! In July, we took a powerboat excursion to the Exumas. It was absolutely amazing!!!! We fed lemon sharks, went snorkeling, and fed iguanas on a private island. The fish fry in Nassau has a lot of great restaurants and its totally safe to go there at night. I will post some pics of our trip to the Exumas. We are not normally big resort people, but we can be in Nassau before noon so it's great for long weekends for us. I love the water park too.

@Rebekah, we've been looking at their mid-level food plan. We didn't know if that would be worth it or not... it covers all of the casual places and a good portion of the fine dining places. I keep wanting to compare with the cruise I took back in September but I'm not sure if it's a good comparison or not. I was not a fan of cruise food unless it was more on the mid-level. I'd love to see your pictures!!!

@Karen, I've heard similar things like that! You can squeak by the high resort prices. We'll definitely check that out.

@Karley, yeah, the reviews I'm reading tend to come from the cruise folks. I expect it wouldn't feel like it was all worth to only spend 6-8 hours there. Feels like there's way too much to see/do in that window of time.

I personally have never been but my boss went last year with her son and raved about it!

I think it would be an incredible experience.

I've been there, it is HUGEEE!!!! The water rides were the best part. For the stuff like swimming with dolphins and such, we did a different excursion that takes you to a different island, we really enjoyed being on the smaller island and taking advantage of that type of stuff.

I know its your honeymoon, but if you are on a budget, you can stay at the Comfort Inn (literally a 3 minute walk to Atlantis) and get access to Atlantis (all the water rides and everything). Of course Comfort Inn is not the BEST hotel, but for us it helped tremendously with the budget.

Also, I will say I didn't really enjoy the food options, and we traveled to Nassau for most of our dinner and lunch meals. Comfort Inn had free breakfast.

Just saw Karen mentioned Comfort Suites as well...

    So I second her comment!

@MrsStobe, yes, pretty much EVERYONE that I've asked RAVES about it. I really want to see what the fuss is about.

@Piecesofadream, we're really looking forward to the water park. It looks insane!
