Just Cake? Or sweets too?

Ericha, on April 21, 2018 at 11:13 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 27
So, my FH and I are definitely planning to have a wedding cake to cut and share with our 75 guests (we have our cake tasting this upcoming Saturday). We were initially planning to have a sweets table as well, but now we are thinking about nixing the idea in order to cut some costs. I know not everyone eats cake, and I've seen a lot of people posting on WW about having a sweets table- sometimes even instead of a cake (but we are pretty set on wanting a cake). Is it an absolute must to provide other sweets for those who won't eat the cake, or is it acceptable to just have the cake?

We wouldn't be doing a groom cake. Just a two or three tiered wedding cake.

I think cake is just fine! That’s what most people expect at a wedding.

I thought the same thing I wanted more because I felt the cake wasn’t enough. But then my FH said why we need so much sugar when we already have a sundae bar to go with the cake 🎂 🍨

We are doing a cake and a Brazilian sweets table.

we are mostly doing the sweets because I wanted to have some Brazilian aspects for my FH, and that's a main thing they do.

Just cake is fine, especially if you have different flavours for the tiers. That's all we're planning for dessert, we don't want lots of leftover cake because we had too many options.

We are doing a cake and also a desserts table but only because our venue (and caterer) provide an assorted desserts table as part of their package.

Just cake is fine! We stopped thinking of that idea too because it is an extra $15/ person.

Just cake is fine. Most of the weddings we’ve attended, including ours, had cake as the only dessert.

We planned and ordered cupcakes for our wedding, and then we were surprised by DH’s Mom and aunts who wanted to do a cookie table (he’s from Pittsburgh and it’s a tradition there). We were so happy and it went over super well with the guests! We did have a lot of cupcakes left over though. Our venue wrapped them up 4 at a time and had people take them home at the end of the night.

so, while it went over well and I loved it, we ended up actually having too much (can’t believe I’m saying that 😜)

so so long story short, cake is just fine! If you want to add something though, you’re guests will love it, but be prepared to have a lot left over Smiley smile

I had this same dilemma but cake and sweets equals more money which I’m not trying to put out so we’re just doing cake which is gonna be 3 tiers. So I think just cake is fine.

It’s a nice idea to have a sweets table but not necessary. I’ve been to a few wedding with just cake and I can’t remember hearing any complaints.

If if you’re worried and you haven’t gotten any favors yet, you could have a candy bar with take home bags. It is a sweets table and favors all in one!

Also, cake tasting was one of my favorite parts of the wedding planning process, enjoy!

We are planning on having one 2-tier cake and one single tier cake, both different flavors, and key lime pie! Just because we are in Key West and feel it’s like necessary lol!

Just having cake is fine. We are having the small cake that we are cutting together that will be decorated and on display and then sheet cake that will be cut back in the kitchen and served to everyone else.
