Just a little annoyed

RachMariee, on March 31, 2018 at 5:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17
My husband and I got married at the courthouse back in November. We have a couple that we’re friends with through DH’s work that sent out save the dates shortly after, and I was a little bit annoyed that it said “Mr. Hubby Lastname & guest” instead of my name at all; DH and I have been together for longer than we’ve known them!
DH reminded me that they probably sent them out before they knew we got married but it still rubbed me the wrong way.

Fast forward to this week and the wedding invite was STILL addressed “Mr. Hubby Lastname and guest”. Would anyone else be annoyed by this?

People know you are married? We see a lot of married in a private ceremony but reception later posts and not telling anyone, which is why I ask.
Also - idk if my fiancé knows all the ins and outs of some of his coworkers lives unless it is in his face. So if the groom supplied the info it may have just slipped his mind (huge generalization).
    Just respond Mr and Mrs.

Yes I'd be annoyed by it, it's not properly addressed and is a bit rude, but I wouldn't say anything to them. I'd just let it go and know at leat they gave him a plus one lol

I would be totally annoyed! My daughter has gone through great lengths to address SO's by name on her STD's. A little effort goes a long way!

Even if you weren’t married, they should have had your name on the invite since they know you are a couple. When I sent an invite to my MOH, I put her boyfriend’s name on it as well, and they don’t even live together. I’d be annoyed but I wouldn’t let it ruin my day.

They put "guest"?? Even if they don't know you two are married why couldn't they put "His name, last name and your name, last name" at least that! Yeah I'd be annoyed by this..

If you are friends with them too, along with your H, you should be addressed by name. To think of you as his guest, rather than his partner is really quite insulting.

However, to play devils advocate, this couple may not understand the etiquette of addressing wedding invitations. The only way for you to know for sure whether they are being disrespectful or if they are simply just ignorant is to see how they addressed other couples invitations...but you likely won’t be able to that so...I think you just have to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one and try not to take it personally.

Yes everyone in our life knows we are married! Maybe it rubs me so wrong because DH told me about a convo where his coworker specifically asked about our marriage lol.

I responded Mr and Mrs, and I’ll get over it haha, just had to vent because I felt a little pushed to the side!

I’m on mobile so I can’t edit my post but my first paragraph was meant to say that they should know your name and know your relationship to invite you by name, not that just because you are friends you should be invited by name. Frankly you should be invited by name even if they didn’t know you.

I get it I would be so annoyed. I’m petty, write their card out to groom first and last plus ‘bride’. Just bride, no name 🤣

I wouldn't waste the energy being annoyed. My guess is they are just being lazy and you probably weren't the only couple incorrectly addressed.

Maybe that's the way they had it in some type ofcomputer program and never changed it as an oversight? I'm trying to think why/how it could have been overlooked and that's the only thing I could come up with.

We got an invite for a wedding that was similarly addressed. We were friends with the couple in college and saw each other regularly. I went to high school with the groom. We were engaged and living together when the invite came to H and guest. I was super annoyed by it. Like, only H is important enough to actually be invited, when I've known you just as long, if not longer? "Guest" to me means you can take anyone, so the only reason I was even technically invited is because H would have taken me as his "guest".

If you want to be petty like me, you could always fill out the rsvp card like I did. I wrote both our names, and put ("guest") after my name, quotation marks and all.

Yeah I'd be annoyed but some people just don't think. It might not be anything other than an oversight.

Yes, slightly annoying. But in the grand scheme of things, just a faux pas on their part. Do you have a name that is difficult to know how to spell? What it shows probably, is that the couple didn't spend the additional time to figure out the proper name?

My grumpy self says that all etiquette is falling by the wayside quickly, and where will we end up, ha, ha!

Make a point of writing your name very beautifully on the RSVP card, or perhaps, putting your name first, and "guest", if you are really feel mean. NO, I'm kidding! Think about doing that, and then take the high road and write out both names, though.

I do hope that if there is a seating chart at this wedding, you will be given a name!

FH and I were invited to a 25th wedding anniversary two years ago and we have been together for 7. They made the invitation out to "FH and Guest". They know my name, we are friends on social media, and I went to their daughter's wedding. I am still salty and will be forever bitter. It's extremely rude!!!
