Is this flower estimate too high??? Paging Centerpiece

jaime, on January 18, 2017 at 5:01 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 41

Yesterday I had my first consultation with a florist. She emailed me her quote today and I almost threw up! I'll tell you what I was quoted and I will post the pics I sent her for inspiration. Mind you I want very minimal flowers. More greenery than anything. I told her that I want to be the only one with flowers, literally everyone else can have greens.

The only thing on there my eyes popped at was the garland...Idk if that's typical or not but everything else seems average...I'd put 'Paging Centerpiece' in your title...She's a florist..She can answer this!

It depends on your location, but I would say those prices are pretty fair. The table garland is high, but I know those can get really expensive.

It's a little high compared to where I live but it's not jaw dropping. I say that for everything but the garland...I can't speak on that.

The only thing that made me pause was the garland. Everything else looks totally standard. Echoing PPs, how much garland is it? What kind is she getting? Maybe the kind in the pictures is a more expensive variety and she could get one for cheaper, but she's doing what she thinks you want?

The garland and the pew arrangements seem crazy to me. But hey, I've never planned a wedding before so I have no idea!

I was quoted $10/per pew bow, to compare. But it's just bows, no flowers or anything.

The tables are 8 foot tables, so its a good amount of garland.

Those prices seem fair to me. If it is outside of your budget, I'd respond back and politely let her know it was a bit more than anticipated, and see if she can recommend any different flowers or greenery that would achieve a similar look within your budget.

The prices seem like a really great deal to me - except for the table garland. I have zero frame of reference for how much that garland should cost, but that seems really high! Like @VegasWed! said, I'd ask if there is any way to bring the cost down on the garland. Would it be less expensive with a different type of greenery, or if it was thinner?

The garland looks really high, especially for just greens.

Also, I am loving your greenery idea. That'll be fantastic in December.

A good rule of thumb on garlands is about $20 per foot. You can sometimes find them for less online...but that's about the average from what I've seen.

Garlands require a lot of work and a high amount of skill, so they aren't cheap. How many feet of garland are you wanting?

I recommend finding an alternative. Maybe just do a garland on your sweetheart table and then simpler centerpieces on the others. Even if you just did some loose leaf greenery with candles it'd be much cheaper (photo for inspiration attached).

Otherwise, check into FiftyFlowers or Etsy for garlands. I don't think it'd be too much trouble to order garlands online...probably a bit easier to keep fresh.

ETA: wrote this before I saw how many garlands and how long you need them to be. @Richard's price sounds spot on to what I mentioned earlier. I'd go with an alternative that doesn't require the labor-intensive work of a garland.
