Is my dress budget too small?

Fmv, on March 23, 2019 at 1:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22
Happy Saturday Everyone!

So we made our budget and my FH says hes fine with whatever amount i spent on the wedding dress....well i am only looking to spend $800 or less. I really cant imagine spending anymore then that for a dress i only will wear once. Although i do want lance, and even sleeves i am not willing to pick a cheap dress i dislike.
I called a few bridal shops in the area and told them my budget and asked they would be able to accommodate that. Most said no! That most of the dresses start at 1k or more. A few said no, but that they have sample sales but cant guarantee i would find something.
So is my budget to small? Should i make a larger budget?
I plan on going to davids bridal, but i just wanted more options in case i dont find something there.

I got my dress for 200. I don't think your budget is too small but a lot of bridal boutiques carry expensive dresses. Check at BHLDN if you have one in your area. They have a wide variety of price points. They also do online ordering and I believe they have a 30 day return policy.

Looks like the closest BHLDN store to me is about 3 hours away.
I will just have to search around at different shops and check out davids bridal

I work at a Davids Bridal, the majority of our dresses are $800 and under! They are also having a 10% off any regular priced dress until 3/27! So that could also help as well!

Look at Azazie. My dress is $400 from there. You can try on samples at home for $15/dress. And they often have sample try on sales so you can order two samples and get one for free (I.e try on three dresses for the price of two $30). I was hesitant at first, but once I tried on the samples I felt good about the quality of the dresses to order my dress from here.

I found most boutiques were all over 1k most starting at 2k but I found one that was having a end of the year sale so I got mine for half off. I don’t think your budget is too low. Also David’s Bridal has tons of options and also they have sales all year long.

I got my dress at davids bridal for under $800 so that’s not a bad budget. I’d be careful about alterations though - I ended up spending over $300 on alterations because I had lace on the dress and an intricate hemn which made it more expensive to shorten a half inch

I don't think that's too small. If you want a nicer dress without the nicer pricetag, look into preowned dresses. I got my dream dress for half off bc I found someone selling it on Facebook.

That's not too small at all!! Unfortunately a lot of the smaller boutiques charge more. David's has many beautiful dresses for well under 800! I would also keep checking for other salons as well, maybe even a bit outside your area if you are willing to travel a bit. I found my dress at a shop 2 hours away from home! And it was HALF the price of the 1st dress I thought I wanted. Totally worth the drive!

Not necessarily, it depends on what kind of wedding dress you want. Mines was less than $200.

That’s not too small. One thing you could do is go to different places and try on dresses even ones over budget, then if you find “the one” but it’s too expensive, go online find it. One place I went to had a sample of a gown for $1000 I absolutely loved it. But my budget was $700 and I really didn’t want to go over that much because it also need a lot of alterations. So I went online and found the exact dress at preownedweddingdress.com. There are multiple sites though. And someone was willing to sell me theirs for 700. Plus this one was brand new (she had decided to go with another dress), never worn and the sample gown in the store had been tried on 100s of times and it showed.

My budget it smaller than that. I'm setting mine for under 250. With places like David's Bridal and online retailers like BDHN, and others it can be done. It does cut down own selection though

I think you can easily get something for $800. At David's Bridal, ask to see the clearance dresses.... they're usually 50% off! I got mine on clearance at DB for $550 (it was a $1100 dress)
