Is married life just like living together??

Michelle, on January 25, 2016 at 8:59 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

I was just wondering/being curious - for brides who lived together before getting married is life different after you get married??? My fiance and I have been living together for two years now - I feel like we're already married hehehehe... does anything change besides your last name??

From my experience, not really. We lived together about 3 1/2 yrs before hand.

Not married yet, but I really don't think anything will change. We've been together for almost 11 years, living together 7 years and have two kids together. I'm more married now than I will be in June haha

Not much changed. I felt like we were more of a team and other people definitely treated our relationship more seriously after our marriage.

We've been together 4 years, and getting married on our 5 year anniversary. We have joint banking accts and own a house together (lived together 3.5 yrs). I don't think anything is going to change for us.

It's not the same, but it's hard to explain what changed. In practical terms yes, everything is the same - same routine, joint finances, big decisions are made together, etc. Like kahlcara said, we feel more like a team, and our relationship feels more solid, but it's not like we weren't in love or as committed before. It just feels stronger now Smiley smile

We lived together 3 years before marriage (dating 9).. Yeah honestly nothing has changed except my name and we opened a joint checking account. I'm so glad we lived together before though because it was so stressful when we first moved in figuring out how to live with each other's living habits. It would've been way harder doing that and going through the wedding stress all at the same time.

We lived together for many years before getting married. Something definitely changes. It's beyond the joint accounts and the same last name. Hard to explain but it does feels different.

    Yes! For better!

Like VC Said, routines were the same. Finances are the same. But it just feels like we are a family now. We're "The Smith's". We are a unit. A husband and wife. It's just better. No wedding stress either. I feel like when we fight (it happens even when you're married!) we have more reason to talk it out instead. I don't know why but just mentally you realize you're in this for life and need to figure it out.

I don't know. Little things are a bit different. And I've taken to using husband a lot! But for the most part it is the same. I think knowing that we're in it together, forever.

I was wondering the same thing OP!! Thanks for asking it!

I can't picture anything changing aside from my last name and becoming a mrs so it's great to hear from the ladies who've reached that point already!

After our marriage the bond between us did feel a little different but pretty much life went on as usual.

We have been together over 5 years, at the time of the wedding. And almost 3 of those years we were living together. 2 of them we owned a home together. Personally, no. Not a single thing changes. But I've heard from others that everything changes and marriage is "hard" and "a lot of work". And I just kind of sit there and question why it's so hard for them...

I am wondering the same thing. We've already lived together for 3 years. I do notice a difference in how my extended family relates to FH more now, and how his extended family relates to me, since we got engaged. I guess people take us more seriously now lol. But I don't really expect huge changes in our relationship until we have a baby.

I like the subtle changes to our bond. Even though our circumstances are a little unique in how we chose to handle things, the weight of the legal connection and viewing our relationship as official in the eyes of the law was a development we didn't see coming. It's like coming home and putting on a really nice pair of socks and a big warm perfectly-fitting sweater when it's chilly; everything feels just a little more comfortable and secure.

I totally want to answer this question, but I feel like 3 days, I don't really know. But in the three days, it feels the same. Just weird to see him wearing a ring. We are so busy doing so much I don't think anything is really hitting me just yet.

Nothing really has changed for us. We opened joint accounts, and now if we got pregnant, no one would be upset lol. Sometimes it does *feel* a little different- just a feeling of calmness and contentment. That's the best way to describe it!
