Is $279/night too much for a resort that is not all includsive ?

Future Mrs.P, on March 3, 2017 at 7:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

We are having our DW in Puerto Rico. Most of our guests will travel from PA or FL. Puerto Rico does not have all-inclusive resorts. We're considering having our wedding at Wyndham Grand Rio Mar. We reserved 10 room blocks to begin, since we don't know our final guest count. We'll definitely need more than 10 rooms but we don't have the exact number..

Is $279/night too much to pay as a guest to someone's wedding ?

another question: is the price per night reduced if we request more rooms to be blocked? I'll also ask the vendor this question but i was wondering if this was the case for you... if you blocked rooms for your guests?

It seems a bit high not to be all inclusive

That would be alot to pay in addition to flights and all the meals.

I think it's too much. I've never heard of a hotel reducing the cost with more rooms blocked, but it can't hurt to ask.

That's high - I would expect people to stay at minimum two to three nights and that is a lot (not even including airfare).

I went to PR last summer. It is expensive! Not only for the room, but food, drinks and cabs. Uber is very new there and the taxis get very aggressive when you call for one and they're sitting right there. Uber's are a bit cheaper but for a DW that's not all-inclusive it would be a lot as a guest. I honestly would recommend somewhere else.

ETA: I only included uber info because the city is not exactly walkable, the cobblestones are very uneven and streets are hilly, so that would be an added expense for guests unwilling to walk.

That's high. I looked into PR as a honeymoon destination, and I've seen better rates at very nice hotels.

I appreciate the offer karie. I am working with a travel agent .

I was thinking it might be a lot with the additional cost of flight and food / drink .

I was also considering reserving room blocks for cheaper hotels in the area ...

though I agree with Jillian .. PR is expensive...

I'd hate to change our DW plan so I'd understand if some of our guests can't make it due to cost .

I appreciate the honesty . I asked a few family members and they said it seemed ok.. but idk if they'd come out and say " WOW! That's too much "

I don't know the average prices of PR, but that seems pretty high.

That's high. I would choose somewhere more affordable if you're set on a DW. Florida if you want to stay where guests don't need passports.

Or else like Dominican or Jamaica

That's high. I'd probably find somewhere else to stay that is nearby. I'm pretty independent though and wouldn't want AI anyway.

It's high, but Puerto Rico is just expensive in general. It's beautiful though.

It is on the higher end.

I would suggest getting a room block at other hotels at different price points. So you guests can select what works best for them.
