Involving children in ceremony

Erika, on October 14, 2016 at 2:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I have a 4 year old daughter from a previous marriage (very bad situation) when I met my FH my daughter was 1. She calls my FH daddy and doesn't remember life without him. I am planning on my daughter walking me down the aisle and incorporating her into the ceremony somehow. Any ideas?

She can help with the sand ceremony if you have one. I have seen that done.

Google family vows! It would be adorable if your FH gave her a necklace or something that perhaps she could incorporate in her own wedding one day

UO here: vows are a two way street, and a wedding is between two adults. I think having her walk you down the aisle is super cute, and participating in the sand thing is cute. The vows with kids makes me uncomfortable. They don't have the ability to say no, and they are not reciprocating by promising anything, nor are they getting married.

Just something to think about. You guys are obviously creating a family with your marriage, I just think the ceremony part is between you two. Maybe you could do a necklace presentation privately before the wedding or something.

I always love seeing the vows given to the kids instead of bride and groom! I have seen it twice and it's just the sweetest thing when the groom calls them up and vows to always be there for them

I love the idea of family vows. I think it is the sweetest thing.

@tinybride that is what I had in mind, I didn't plan on having my daughter say something that was rehearsed or forced in response. Just him displaying a gesture of love in front of our loved ones.

Grandparents love it when the step-parent speaks to their grandchild, too. Not a dry eye in the house!

Presenting a token of family unity is popular. And the kids LOVE participating in the unity sand.

My kids are older and don't want to participate in the ceremony so much. My daughter (14) is helping me pick out makeup and music. My oldest son (12) is walking me down the aisle and my youngest son (8) I am planning on him walking down a sign of he'll agree. I would have had them do the sand ceremony with us but they didn't want to so I'm not going to force them to do anything. I did add a couple lines in FH vows just stating that he promises to care and guide them through life etc... They are not coming to the front or anything when he says that. I just wanted that in there for me. I felt it was important that he acknowledge he's not only taking me but that I am a package deal and my kids are included.

My friend did a "tying knot " type thing. Where they wrapped their son's baby blanket around their hands and said a prayer... I thought it was cute
