In Laws Invitation... or lack of.

Katie, on March 22, 2018 at 6:31 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 19
My future in laws have decided that if me and FH go to Las Vegas for our honeymoon, they will be going too. I have worked very hard to include them with the wedding and planning. Our honeymoon is supposed to be our getaway after all of the craziness.
I find it extremely inappropriate for them to go on our honeymoon with us, and it’s even worse that they invited themselves along. FH is on my side and says he supports whatever we want to do (aka telling them they aren’t welcome to join us). But I wanted to check and see if anyone else though it was as rude and inappropriate.

I would absolutely tell them it’s inappropriate. I can’t believe they would even want to go.

Thats very strange! I wouldn't want to go along on any one in my family's honeymoon!

Maybe sit down with them and see if you can plan a family vacation together for later, so that you and FH can have your honeymoon alone? Did they say why they want to come?

They try to justify it by saying their in laws went on their honeymoon, but that doesn’t change how inappropriate it is.

They really enjoy Las Vegas.. and apparently jump at any “chance” to go, even when they aren’t invited.

Goodness! This doesn't sound like a "chance" for them to go at all!

Maybe try telling them it makes you uncomfortable? And plan a time the four of you can go to Vegas together at a later date?

That is totally weird. Why can’t they pick their own place to go on vacation? It’s also strange that their in laws went on their honeymoon. Just say no. And tell them as little about the honeymoon as possible so that if they do plan a trip the same time as you, you could hopefully avoid them in a place as big and busy as Las Vegas.

I think it's ****% inappropriate for them to want to join you on your honeymoon. And I always think it's rude when people invite themselves to things. I can't even imagine wanting to do that. Why would his parents want to see all the PDA a newlywed couple is likely to put out, especially since it's their son!?! So uncomfortable. I would hate it if this were to happen to me.

Maybe go somewhere other than Vegas for the honeymoon? And then make a separate trip to Vegas, one where it would be ok if they tagged along. That way you can keep from potentially offending them, get away from them for the honeymoon, and still go to Vegas.

Completely rude and weird. I would definitely have your FH talk to them and explain that is not ok, honeymoons are meant to be your alone time, etc. (In a nice way of course, nice but firm)

Oh HELL no. I think I'd just not tell them your plans. Or, depending on your relationship with them, say something like "well, we'll probably be spending most of the time in our room." WINK WINK.

That should take care of it.

Ugh this is one of my biggest pet peeves! When people use what they did as proof that that’s what you should do now 😠

The honeymoon is a time for you and FH to get away. Just let them know you can always go back with them. But this time it's just for the two of you.

Insanely inappropriate! I can’t believe anyone would actually think that’s okay. Also it’s just super weird, I’d never want to go on anyone’s honeymoon let alone my child’s!

Ummmmmmm no. That’s totally weird and you have every right to say that you and your FH will be spending your honeymoon alone.

You need to tell them that this is NOT okay because they're going to be encroaching on your honeymoon! Even if they stay at a different hotel and do their own thing, it still steals the spotlight from your special getaway.

That is ****% inappropriate. I would definitely sit down with them and let them know they are not welcome on your honeymoon.

The honeymoon is your special time away from everyone to just enjoy being newly married.

If they still insist on going, I wouldn’t even tell them what hotel I was staying at or when I was flying out, how long we were planning to stay, etc. That way you can still avoid running into them if they do opt to do a Vegas trip during your honeymoon.

Very inappropriate! Tell them that's a hard no and if they insist, I'd go somewhere else and let them go to Vegas!

So much NOPE. Find a way to tell them that they are not invited and that a honeymoon is a chance for the two of you (not the four of you) to celebrate. If they want to do a family vacation later, fine. But a group honeymoon is not up for discussion.

No-brainer. “I’m sorry, but no-one will be coming along on our honeymoon; this is our “private” celebration of our union and is meant to be shared between the two of us, alone. See you when we get back!”
