I want to cry right now....and enjoying a bottle of wine

Christine, on May 31, 2013 at 10:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

So we looked at the centerpieces and my flowers that his grandmother made; and I just want to cry in a way. I'm thankful that she is working on, but they are not my taste. The centerpieces are those heart shaped vases you can get at the dollar tree with wild fall flowers sticking out in all different directions. It is not full though, there are a lot of empty spots. Then, my bouquet, it's just ya, a mess. I wanted her to use these certain flowers but then she turns around and uses something else. I'm at the point that I just want to get this wedding over with. I was not going to splurge on engraved napkins, but now I am to spruce up the table. I'm debating between a cross or an H. Now, I'm going to open my bottle of wine and listen to you wonderful gals advice.

Girl it's your wedding! Express your opinions. I'm sure she will understand as long as you are sweet about it.

I'm sure if you told your grandma how you felt about the centerpieces and your bouquet, she'll change them for you...just express yourself calmly and firmly but also let her know that while you don't like her work you do appreciate her effort...

@ Kaity D. I tried talking to her about it and she just started coming unglued on me about it. The problem is if I use a different container and everything it is going to be really noticable. But then when I think about it, our venue has old farm signs around the walls and is dected out, so I'm pretty sure people won't be paying that close attention to the centerpieces.

This has never been my wedding...it's been a train wreck since day one. We were really thinking about going to the court house but it would hurt my parents. I just can't wait till the day comes.

Then by poor grandma is working her tail off to make cream cheese mints and little chocolates for the tables and truffles with the cake table. She wants to put the mints and chocolates on the guests tables for them to munch on. I have no idea how I could display them and make them look nice.

I second Elizabeth....when she gets them done, I'd take them home and "tweak" them to my liking. The same for your bouquet.

This should be a joyous time. I agree with both of the ladies above. If you feel comfortable and have that type of relationship with her sit her down and let her know that you appreciate what she has done thus far and what you envisioned.

If you don't feel comfortable express your Thank you's and take them home and add what you want. Either way its your Day and you shouldn't let anyone,

not even family take that from you :-)

You could put the candies in tulle and tie them up, at each place setting...???

This is the reason NOT to let people DIY for weddings or events.

Everyone will think I AM a real monster. It is your day. This is a happy time for you. Do not allow anyone to still your joy during this joyous occasion. Put your foot down firmly and respectful. Your wedding day is about your vision.....

Well, you can either say you don't like them and re-do them all together, or try to work with what you've got. maybe be like, "this is great but I would really love to add (such and such) to these." then add more flowers, ribbon, whatever you want. and/or add something else to the centerpieces that go with these vases.

Since you two already discussed one thing, and she did something different, you have every right to be upset. I would talk to her about re-doing them.

I would tell her they are beautiful but you were hoping they could be a little fuller. and you would like to incorporate the certain flower you were talking about. Tell her maybe you could spruce it up a little bit together so she can see the vision you were looking for and then let here work off of that one.

Maybe you could say that someone in your family is gifting you flowers and centerpieces and then secretly make them yourself or pay someone to do it?? My girlfriend wanted to make my cake, I was afraid to let her but didn't want to hurt her feelings so I said my sister was getting my wedding cake as a gift. And I will be paying for it myself.

Is there anything you can add around the centerpieces like place them sticking out of small wooden crates since it'll be in a barn? Check this out:

    http://repinly.machsrichtig.com/2012/11/vintage-wooden-crates-wedding-tables/

Then when you get the crates tell her that was your plan all along. She won't know the difference if you play it off. "These will go great (hidden) inside the crate! Add some other country items inside as well like fresh fruit"

AWW Sweet heart ... My heart goes out to you. I know how you feel. Its crazy how people get so goofy over weddings smh??? I agree with the other ladies who advise you to a fix it up a bit or just have a heart to heart with her matter of fact just have your fiancé do it Smiley smile explain how it will be taken different if he tells her than you. I know it may not be right but there are lots of times when I don't want to do something that someone may want me to do I just say something like well James wants me home or he said he doesn't think so and so is a good idea... Funny part about that was lol when I over heard him doing the same thing lol. Over all the first part of planning my wedding I worried about others way to much!!! I feel a whole lot less stress when I just do me Smiley smile

After all the only thing you need for your wedding is you and your husband to be!!!

    Much Love Doll

Hunny your gma probably just thinks she knows what's best and if you go along with it you'll never be able to get what you want. I'm assuming she probably has a more old style too. Just show her pics of what you would rather have but just make sure and tell her nicely and say how much you appreciate her and such, she might be hurt at first but she'll get it!
