I hate all the little details. VENT.

KristenMeowza, on July 24, 2014 at 12:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

I can't decide anything! I've bought my BMs 3 gifts so far because I have no idea wtf I'm doing and so I'm just like whatever, I'll just throw money at this until I feel satisfied. So far they all have a bracelet, a handkerchief, and fancy vintage hats (yes, HATS). I can't even see straight anymore. I keep going back and forth with what gifts to buy our parents. And our ushers and readers. Do I really wanna spend $60 on embroidered hankies? Do I really have to give all these people a gift? Can I just give our moms and readers the bracelets because I got my BMs so much STUFF? WTF am I doing anymore?! I feel like I'm going crazy - or rather, making myself crazy.

I need a drink.

Aw, You need someone to collaborate with and help bounce ideas off of and let you know if you are doing too much. Go get your drink and relax. Take a breather. Walk away for a while and come back to it with fresh eyes.

Good advice. I just need to leave it ALONE. One of my bridesmaids is coming up to visit me next week and she offered to help, so maybe that will help with alleviating some of this stress.

Pretty much everything I buy, I bounce the idea of at least one person. But that's how I am in general and I have tons of people I feel comfortable with doing so. My FH? He doesn't have those types of relationships with people except for me, so I'm his go-to for everything. And that's why I helped pick out my own e-ring, lol.

I agree that gifts for others are a huge challenge. Our parents already have everything they need and we can't get a hold of hotels we wanted to get them gift cards for.

Take a step back like @heidi said. Let it sit for a while and come back to it.

I still have one usher who I only got popcorn (he loves making popcorn) but I have no idea what else in the world to buy him. He never dresses up and is pretty laid back. He's not into beer or other "man" stuff - he's more into dancing and partying and watching Netflix. AH! I can't decide either.

I hate that you are expected to give gifts to everyone too, just "because they stood with you on your wedding day." Um, they're my friends, they stood with me because they WANTED TO, not because they wanted a gift. I was talking to my MOH about this, and asked if we were horrible for not getting our BP gifts. I told her that we couldn't really afford it...and even at $10 each, that's over $120 for the BP and parents gifts. And what the hell can you get that's worth anything for $10! I can't spend $240, at the bare minimum on gifts for people....

Thankfully she totally agreed with me. I don't understand why weddings are all about gifts...ugh.

I have been going back and forth. I rather put the gift money towards their dresses/tuxes since the BP is 90% family members.

I'm with Brittany on this one. Getting the bridal party, ushers, ring bearers, flower girls, and a gift/favor every single person that comes to our wedding agift is crazy. It's not that I don't appreciate everyone, but all of them are friends and family and they don't expect to get a gift for helping or being part of our special day. I know that for weddings I have been in and to I don't expect to get a single thing but to enjoy the day wtih them celebrating their marriage. I was raised to be gracious and to have good manner, but this whole gift giving thing is expensive and over the top if you ask me.

BTW Kristen I feel your pain, FH and i are married in 24 days and I have grown to hate the details and making decisions in general lol

Right?! It's not like you are asked to be in a wedding, and your first thought is, Oh I wonder what they're going to give me! lol.

Thanks everyone for listening to my rant. Smiley smile I really don't think the ushers even care about gifts. What if I just let them keep the boutonnieres I made them? -which I was going to do anyway, but still.

Right on, Brittany! Gifts are certainally nice, but you shouldn't feel "required" to give them.

I'm still 10 months-ish out and I've been over the details for a long time. I do not want to deal with it at all.

Just walk away from it and breathe! It's so easy to get spinning brain from all this stuff. Smiley laugh

The gifts were an issue to me, too. In the end I got them a clutch filled with fancy lip balm, hand cream, and a Pure Romance perfume stick. I also got them a bracelet from Lia Sophia, and bottle of wine. At some point I just had to say "enough" and leave it at that.

I feel your pain. I'm only giving 2 gifts and that's to the 2 bridesmaids who actually did stuff. The others just kind of existed during the whole planning process....
