How to pick our first dance song?

Ivonne, on February 13, 2019 at 10:22 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

We still have time to decide this, but wanting something that has not been used a million times before is our biggest challenge. Any suggestions of lovely songs that are not sang by super famous people?

FH and I are a blended family. Four children total between us, and we don't have a lot of money. We got pregnant early into our relationship, which definitely fast tracked some things...but I am a firm believer in God's timing, not ours. Our relationship is unconventional, but it is our story and I love it. Our song will be "Danny's Song" by Loggins & Messina. The lyrics just speak so well to our relationship: "Even though we ain't got money, I'm so in love with you honey...and everything will bring a chain of love, loooovvvveeee...etc." And, My name is Danielle, so I kind of like how the title is Danny (kind of like a nickname for me). Don't know if that helps, but it is an older non-popular/overplayed song. Smiley smile

    Some other cool options are:

"The Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra

    "Everything" by Michael Buble'

"Unchained Melody" by The Righteous Brothers

"You Are The Best Thing" by Ray LaMontagne

    "Better Place" by Rachel Platten

"My Best Friend" by Tim McGraw

"Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley or Haley Reinhart (I love both versions)

"When You Say Nothing At All" by Keith Whitley

    "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton

"Give in to Me" by Garrett Hedlund & Leighton Meester

"Its Your Love" by Tim McGraw & Faith Hill

"The Keeper of the Stars" by Tracy Byrd

Hi Ivonne!! Welcome to WeddingWire!! Smiley ring To me, first dance songs should be songs that mean something to the couple, whether it's their song that's been important to them in their relationship or if the lyrics mean something to them or maybe it's even from their favorite movie. Do any songs come to mind when you think along those lines?

I like In Your Arms or Can't Help Falling in Love by Kina Grannis. Maybe Angel Eyes by Love and Theft.

My fiancé and I will be dancing to “The Only One Who Gets Me” by Charles Kelly ♥️ I was totally with you, I didn’t want a song that everyone used, but also something my fiancé and I could relate to.

Our wedding song actually came easy when we finally got engaged... unfortunately, it is more of a popular song but since the day it has come out he has always said this song expresses exactly how I feel. So as soon as we got engaged and I asked about our first dance.... Of course he said Major "This is Why I love You" and it is being sung by my cousin. Is there a song that always seems to play at the right moment, a song that makes you think about each other. I feel like when you hear it you will know it... Maybe just take a ride one day and let the radio play and just live in the moment your perfect song has probably always been there you just didn't know it.

    That's a beautiful song!!

Exactly!! I just want it to be something sweet and like us but nothing that gets played or is on the "first dance songs" lists. We still have a little while but I feel like is just enough time to try to listen more and see what we like. Maybe discover new ones! Smiley heart

Yes I LOVE his voice. He's from the band Lady Antebellum.

Here's a couple other songs that aren't on the first dance list:

One of your nights by Aaron Watson

A Moment Like This by Kelly Clarkson (this is my down the aisle song)

Can't Take My Eyes Off You by Lady Antebellum

There You'll Be by Faith Hill

    I'm Yours by Alessia Cara

Never Stop by SafetySuit (they have a wedding version)

    Live Forever by Kane Brown

Our first dance song is "our song" so it is very meaningful to us. It's "All I Want is You" by U2.

We danced to "The Wonder of You" by The Villagers. It is a cover of an Elvis song.

We thought about doing "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingos. Also on the list was "Beautiful Thing" by Grace Vander Waal, but that is almost impossible to dance to.

The Bridal party walked down to "This Kind of Love" by Sister Hazel. That was also in the running for first dance.

Some others that are more country are

"You're My Favorite" by Jason Jones

    "You Are" by Jimmy Wayne
