Hotel Block/ Do we look before we Sign and Block?

Katelyn, on October 11, 2018 at 7:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
My FMIL thinks we should look at the hotel rooms before we book them for the block, yay or nay? Has anyone else done this or think it appropriate? All the pictures are on Google, and the hotel has awesome reviews and 4.5 stars rating, that's all that matters to me, oh and it has shuttle services to and from the venue.

I don’t think it’s necessary. We went based on pictures and reviews like you said.

Were probably blocking at hotel we’ve stayed at before because we liked it and it’s convenient. I know that when my cousin was blocking rooms for her wedding she made a weekend out of it and stayed at the hotel she was considering. If you’re not local and the hotel seems okay based on reviews and pictures I would think that’s enough, no NEED to visit.

I think as long as the hotel has good reviews and you can see pictures on the website then you don't need to.

It doesn’t hurt to look. My sisters hotel that she had a block for had great reviews, but when it came to wedding day they decided like 3 months prior to start a year long renovation process. Didn’t bother to tell her or the guests. It was an awful experience for everyone.

I don't think that's necessary either. Look at the hotel websites, TripAdvisor, Google reviews, and Yelp. Choose hotels based on your needs. We chose 3 hotels and I've been to 2/3 of them so I was able to pick based on personal experience.

We didn't. They were about 1.5 hour away so we didn't want to drive down there. I just looked on Yelp, Tripadvisor and Google reviews.

My FH wanted to look at the rooms at the hotels we were considering for room blocks. I saw no point as all I had to do to see the rooms was look online (hotel website, trip advisor, etc). It would have been a waste of a 50 minute drive up there to do this. We did view the rooms at our venue’s inn, but only because it was offered during our tasting event we attended.
I just spoke on the phone/emailed with the hotels for blocks and that worked fine!

We don't plan on it and I don't think it's necessary, but it couldn't hurt if it matters to him. When we book a hotel in a new place, we never get to see the rooms before going so it's always a gamble based on pictures and reviews online.

You could also use an expert to book the rooms, because they'd have more knowledge about the hotels, having worked with them in the past! Plus they could probably get you better discounts/perks than you would on your own.... I HAVE to recommend Jenny and Catherine at JC Room Blocks (search for them on Facebook!!). They are AMAZING - they are handling the whole room block mess for us, researched different hotels for us, even gave us a report on them all so we could pick, AND they're even getting us a free honeymoon suite, and all kinds of discounts and perks - even discounted rooms for the bridal party to get ready in!! It's a $50 flat fee, and they handle it all. It's such a relief to not have to worry about all that, on top of everything else!!! If you call them, tell them Angela sent you - I want them to know how much we appreciate them!!!
