Honeymoon cruise

Been on a ton of cruises. Best way to travel in my opinion! We are taking an 11 night Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon.

When are you looking to go? Thru what cruise line? I suggest going to DirectLineCruises.com. They usually have a lot of "perks" when you book through them. For example, we got a free unlimited drink package (score), 4 nights in a speciality restaurant, free travel insurance, 10 free professional photos(usually about $25 each), free internet and phone and some on board credit.

Go to Cruisecritic.com as well for their message boards. You will learn a ton!

We are going the last week of October 2017 on the Carnival Magic cruise line.

We went on a 7 night cruise for our honeymoon through carnival (Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel).

1) I definitely think for honeymoons, balcony rooms are a must. They're just so much nicer than the basic cabin rooms.

2) If you plan on drinking, the Cheers Pass is SO WORTH IT. We wish we had bought it because we ended up spending more money on booze than the pass would have cost.

3) Possible con could be the amount of kids, especially since Carnival is family friendly. We went in January and there were very few kids so it was nice, but I'm not sure about October.

4) The food was surprisingly good.

5) When you book, make sure to specify that you're on your honeymoon. You get a few small perks/freebies.

I've never cruised with Carnival so I'm not sure if any of my tips hold true for them!

CruiseCritic is awesome. I've been on several cruises, all Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. Celebrity was very clean and had stunning decor/pool areas. I hope to go on another soon!

Tips:

Pretend you have to live in your bathroom the week before you leave so when you see your cabin, it'll look huge.

Verandas are TOTALLY worth the splurge.

Use TripAdvisor to book excursions and tours-- it saves you a lot of money. Ship excursions can be very expensive. TripAdvisor is rated by travelers. If they have high reviews, there's a reason! (Similarly, if they have bad reviews... stay away haha)

Go to the evening shows, especially the production ones (Broadway night, etc). They're usually really high caliber.

Have a blast and take ALL the photos.

We're going on a cruise for our honeymoon at the end of November! I don't have any suggestions because it'll be my first time cruising, but I'm excited!

Not for my honeymoon but we just took a cruise to the Bahamas from Miami in March for my birthday. It was my first one and FH first time as an adult. We had a blast and considered it for our honey moon. The only con I see is if you really like to tour the destinations you may want to reconsider. For us we stayed overnight in the bahamas so we got to experience it for day/night life. Lots of times you may only be at a port from early morning to afternoon. I like to explore and do lots of excursions so there isnt much time for that. Thats the only reason we opted out of it for the honeymoon. But yes get the drink package for sure! it was definitely worth it. We also did the balcony as PP suggested.

We went on a cruise to the Bahamas (on Carnival) for our honeymoon.

1.) Agree with the tip to get a balcony room. We wish we had. DH thought the partially obstructed view double door rooms would really only be partially obstructed. We could see the water if we stood back and looked down at a certain angle. Those lifeboats are huge. We laughed so hard.

2.) When they ask if you are celebrating anything, tell them you are celebrating your honeymoon. We got a $50 gift card to the spa, a discount for Pixels, a free extra honeymoon dessert and champagne the night we went to the steakhouse, and our servers at the normal dining hall sang "happy honeymoon" to us and presented us with more extra dessert.

3.) Yes, there were a lot of kids. Fighting for space out on Serenity is worth it.

I've literally done that exact cruise! All three were cool but i would do an excursion for each because the ports aren't that exciting. The ruins in Belize were incredible!

Cruises are awesome! You get adventure or relaxation and can see multiple places without unpacking multiple times!

Just don't do an interior room bc they're tiny! Upgrade to a nicer room

Don't do the drink package if you're on a long cruise and don't drink a lot. It's $100 a day for both of you (on average) and unless you drink 5 drinks per person or more a day it's not worth it and you'd save money buying as you go since most drinks are around $10

Following! I purchased a car last year and I got a free cruise with it, you can only book in off seasons and since my wedding is in Feb i thought that it would be perfect. I'm still unsure on what is covered in the package. If anyone has gone on a cruise using a deal like this please let me know if it is worth it or we should consider something else

I'll remark on the "cons," in that case. I'm not a fan of cruises--primarily because you don't really get to explore the countries or islands en route. I've found that with Caribbean cruise excursions, you'll have a few hours to pop in and see a distorted, very touristy side of the destination. I recall getting out in Jamaica, seeing the same chain diamond stores and Margaraitaville restaurants as in every other port, then passing the city and shantytowns from an air-conditioned bus on the way to an excursion yacht. It feels very removed from the reality of a country--a Disney-fied experience, in a way--so if you're someone who really enjoys going off the beaten path and getting to know people locally, cruises aren't great.

So we booked our cruise through our travel agent. She knows we're celebrating our honeymoon. Do we count on her to let the cruise ship know or do we still need to tell them ourselves that we're celebrating our honeymoon? This is our first cruise

We're going on an Alaskan cruise with Royal Caribbean for our honeymoon and i'm so excited! I cruised once when I was young, to the bahamas and loved it. Alaska is really "us" so we are looking forward to it. I booked through Avoya, they had the best deals i could find. We're getting the drink package, I'm going to splurge on a massage at the spa... should be a really good time

I'm going on a cruise to Bermuda for my honeymoon using NCL and I'm so excited! Cruising was always my favorite vacation growing up!

We went on a cruise a few years ago to the bahamas through Royal Caribbean. It was awesome! We are also doing a 7 day cruise to Bermuda for our honeymoon using Norwegian.

I have had many people tell me to get the balcony as well, but when we went on our last cruise I couldn't even look out the windows when we were sailing because it made me sick. I'm hoping now that Ive been on it maybe bringing some meds will change that, We got a window, but thinking maybe switch to balcony.

Also if you and FH drink, get the beverage package! Definitely worth it.

@Jessica we are planning an Alaskan cruise for our honeymoon too! We haven't booked it yet since FH is a teacher and we aren't going until summer 2018. It will be our first cruise!
