Help me dress my mom!!

Jaime, on June 5, 2012 at 8:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Alright ladies.... hoping you can all send some great suggestions my way. Smiley smile My wedding date is 8/11.... and my mom has yet to find a dress. She's super picky, and tiny, which are two problems in themselves. The other problem... she's 45 minutes from the nearest shopping options, and The only way to get her there, is for me to make that 90 minute round trip run to get her and take her home. We've been to Macy's and JCPenney and came up empty. David's doesn't carry petite sizes or regular sizes much smaller than a 6 or an 8.

I've been trying online shopping with stores that have easy ship & free returns. Am I missing any?

Macy's

JCP

Nordstrom

Overstock

Amazon

Younkers

She's so short that it has to be a knee length dress, it has to be one with a bolero/jacket thing, it can't be a v-neck OR too low, it can't be super form fitting...

Any other store suggestions would be great!!

Have you tried The Limited, JCrew, Banana Republic, or White House Black Market? You could also look at Boston Store or Dillards.

Too bad your wedding is so close or I recommend that she look at Bridesmaid dresses. My mom is on the small side and we ended up getting her a bm dress because it fit her personality more.

Try shopping in the jr dept of the department stores or "younger" stores like Debs, Forever 21, 5,7,9. And since it's prom season they have tons of stuff.

Ann Taylor and AT Loft have way more petites options online, and returns are easy - just take whatever doesn't work back to an actual AT or Loft store. Land's End is also full of petites options online and can be returned to Sears, so if she doesn't need a very fancy dress you might want to try their website.

Just keep checking back to Macy's, lord&taylor any of those stores bc I had a similar problem with my mom but she's on the heavier side & picky. We went to different malls around us and it finally took a hour drive to a Macy's to find her dress. I've now realized even though its Macy's different locations have different options. Good luck!!

I have a similar situation but my mom refuses to buy a new dress. She would rather shop at thrift stores and yard sales. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with a good deal but just once can she buy a new, nice dress! I don't want to hurt her feelings but if she comes at me with another flowery dress or 80's style I'm afraid it's going to happen!

Zappos is good too! People forget a lot of times they sell clothes (amongst everything else) and their returns are SUPER easy and shipping is FAST FAST FAST!
