Hair and Make-up: same company or different companies

B11, on June 6, 2018 at 10:19 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 16
Good morning WW!

I am curious what other opinions are on this. I’m starting to get quotes for hair and make up for my wedding next May. There are a few companies that offer both hair and make up and a few companies that only offer one of those services. There will be 5 of us getting both hair and make up done (me, 2 moms, 2 bridesmaids). I’m trying to decide which is the better option. What are everyone else’s opinions? Pros and cons to using one company or two different companies?
Thanks!

I am using just one company as they offer both. Her portfolio work is good and they have packages for the bride so you get a discounted price with both hair and make up rolled into one. But check around, if you like two different artists then go with two different companies. Whatever works the best for you and your day

I'm using 2 different companies. I have myself, 3 bridesmaids, my mom, and 2 flower girls (granted they'll be hair only.) Our wedding starts at 11:30am, so we have to get started super early (like 5am!) With using 2 companies I'm able to have 2 hair stylists and 2 makeup artists so it makes the most sense for us.

I booked someone who does both. Since I'm planning long distance, I booked her without getting a trial based on her reviews. I did have a trial last December and I'm very happy with the outcome. If you have the privilege to trial some vendors before booking them, I would take advantage of that. My hair and makeup artist does weddings often so she's used to the expectations of the industry. I also like that I pay only her and not two different vendors.

ETA: besides working on me, she'll be doing the hair and makeup for 9 other people so she's bringing 2 assistants.

As of right now I will be using two different companies. I found someone that I knew from school who does makeup and works in a spa and does makeup on the side also. For hair I am still trying to find the right person!

This has probably been the hardest part of wedding planning so far! Smiley xd

We are having two different stylists/artists, mainly because I wanted someone specific for my hair, and they don't do makeup. Three of us are going to a salon for our hair (5 minutes from where we're getting ready), then the MUA is coming to my parents' house for 4 of us.

Following! I’ve started getting some pricing for hair/makeup for my wedding next June as well and have been wondering the same thing. I feel like both in one place would be easier so you don’t have to coordinate two different vendors but my concern is that they aren’t as specialized so they wouldn’t be as good as individual vendors that only do hair and only do makeup.

Thanks for all the insight so far! The companies that offer both would send 1 hair artist and 1 make up artist and if I did separate companies they’d send 1 artist each as well. So either way there would be 1 artist for each service, which makes it harder to decide! And they all have gorgeous photos and similar pricing. Back to stalking their instagrams I go! I wish trials didn’t cost so much either..

I'm going with one company simply because we're getting ready at the salon (and the prices were extremely reasonable). Plus I have a lot of girls getting ready with me, so it's easier for us to get hair/makeup done at the salon vs home, since there will be more stylists available at once.

I'm using two companies, I do not want my vendor to be overwhelmed (even though she is a pro so probably wouldn't be) . My hairstylist will have an assistant and so would my MUA. I also have 5 BM, Mom and FMIL and myself. Day of weeding will be starting early due to everyone getting hair styled and make up application.

I am using 2 companies. The company I hired for hair just doesn't have a MUA that can do glam makeup for my complexion. They say they do but I have seen no references showing such. The company I hired for makeup doesn't offer hair at all.

It depends on the individual stylists, IMO. I don't think it matters either way, just pick the best people.

I used my longtime stylist for my hair, and then hired a MUA separately, after doing trials with several different ones.

I did the same company. Very convenient, she comes right to my hotel room. Already did the trial.

I ran into the same issue and I actually ended up having to find two for hair and two for makeup and we are getting charged mileage for them coming to us. I definitely recommend using the same company for both!

I have been stressing about HAMUA for a few days now. After looking at a ton of quotes I am realizing I can save hundreds by splitting between 2-4 companies (hair, makeup, nails, spray tan). get very detailed quotes from all and keep in mind you may be paying more travel fees by getting more than 1 company

I'm hoping to find one company to do both. I have 13 people that need hair and makeup, so regardless there will be 2-3 stylists.
