Getting Ready Attire

Megan, on March 11, 2019 at 1:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

Thinking of doing oversized tee's instead of robes for getting ready...they just seem more...comfy and easy going? I dunno I'm just thinking about keeping a rub shut in front of everyone and also the use-ability afterwards. Plus I think everyone might be more comfy in leggings + tshirts.

Has anyone done something like before? Any good places to buy? The ones on Etsy I've seen are like $25+ and that seems like a lot for a tshirt. I'm also open to purchasing the plain tees and then doing the iron on vinyl with my silhouette cameo. What kind of personalization should I put on them? I didn't want to put "bridesmaid"

Those are cute! I do caution though- usually robes and such are because you get your hair and make up done, you can’t exactly pull tees off without messing something up.
As for the writing: go with nicknames or regular names (like the pic above) and you can have the date on it in the back or in small writing if you want

Cute! My only dilemma would be wearing a bra all day, so caution the girls to wear pasties or strapless bras with it so they don't have indentation marks in their shoulders when they put on their dresses. And pulling the shirt off when their hair & makeup is done! I gave my girls an option of a robe, long PJ shirt, or romper. All things that don't have to be pulled over their head. I would check out places like Kohls or Old Navy or Target!

Yes! I thought about pulling something over their heads but figured with these being oversized it would be easy enough to stretch them enough to get over their head without messing up their hair.

Love that idea! You could do each name in a different vinyl color to make them extra personalized, glitter vinyl is pretty also!

What about large button ups? You could do leggings or shorts like they are in the picture

I found some button up/down PJs instead of robes and all my girls are okay with them.

You could put their names (although, I'd never wear a shirt with my name on it again, personal preference)

    We've Got The Bubbly

    Sip & Primp

Friends (themed with the show Friends)

    Squad

    I Do Crew

You could also just do a picture, like a flower bouquet

I love this idea! You could get off the shoulder type shirts that have a really wide neck opening.

You could do their names, monograms, "i do crew", "favorite ladies", "she's tying the knot", "brides babes", etc!

Etsy is good for that kind of stuff. Personally, I am doing a custom button up top. I didn't want the robe issue either, but it's important to my HMUA that I don't have to pull my top over my head after she does my hair. One little snag on a pin and it can all come tumbling down.

That's a cute idea! As long as the neck is wide, you should be ok with not messing up hair and makeup to take them off. I agree that robes are such a ridiculous pain to try to keep shut!

I would never wear them, in a WP, whether a gift or not. Nor robes. I have plenty of button front shirts, long sleeve and sleeveless, in styles and colors I like am comfortable . I hate this fad of Team Wedding. Give me a shirt with anything like my name or anything wedding or stupid, it is instant trash, unworn. Props for wedding pictures are chosen for the bride, and are not truly gifts. Gifts are chosen to please the recipient's taste and personality. These are like giveaway t shirts. Nothing I would wear and pull off over my head, and mess things up. And nothing I would wear after.

Thank you for your opinion but I never actually stated that I was purchasing these "props" to pass as part of a gift to the bridesmaids.

I LOVE the oversized shirt idea. They can wear whatever pants they want and they stay covered. A big neckline allows the shirt to come off without ruining their hair/makeup.

I'm going to do something like this instead of robes. I just did my hair/makeup trial yesterday, I was wearing a long sleeve shirt from VS, and I was able to get it over my head fine lol. I didn't have an updo though. Just saying! lol.

I think I'd be self conscious in a robe as well, I don't want to be a flasher LOL. I like the T-shirt/leggings, oversized T-shirt, or Pj's idea better. More comfortable for me.

I'm not going to do personalization on the getting ready outfits because I want them to be able to wear it again. I'll probably do personalization on something else.

That's a really cute idea! As much as I love the Robes they have become way to popular now and some of my girls have been bridesmaids in several weddings and nobody needs that many robes lol So I was thinking of doing something different as well but to easily work around hair and makeup I think Im going to do monogrammed button up shirts!

Just a tip: Robes and button ups may be more functional. Once hair and makeup is done girls don't want to mess anything up by pulling a shirt over their head.

My bridesmaids are my daughters. (Ages 14 and 22) This is such a cute idea! Way more comfy and I know they would wear them again. It's a better way to spend the money. I think I would still get myself a Bride robe though, for the "getting ready" photos.

The Mumus from Shiki&co (sp) on etsy are AWESOME! They are so soft, comfortable and casual while still being cute for pics. I wear mine from a wedding all the time. You are so right that doing shirts and leggings/shorts is the way to go. The one thing to watch with a T-shirt is how narrow the head hole is. The last thing you want to do is mess up your hair taking it off.

This is adorable. I’m looking for something like this bc my girls all have bigger chests and robes or anything with buttons just will not look cute. Leaning towards shirts like this with a large boatneck or v-neck or just a tank and zip up hoodie with leggings or pj pants
