Father/daughter/stepdad Dance

Stacey, on September 18, 2018 at 11:46 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
Sooo... I have decided that I will have my BioDad walk me in and half way down the isle to my StepDad who will walk me the rest of the way to give me away to my soon to be hubby. That took some time in itself to figure that out... Whew lol but now I'm faced with the infamous "Father/Daughter dance". I have no idea how to go about who gets the dance. Can someone/anyone offer up so advice please??

How about doing something similar to walking down the aisle? Start the dance with one dad, then the other one cuts in?

Hi Stacey! Welcome to the WeddingWire Community! I've actually seen this done where the bride will dance with both to their own song! They chose to shorten the songs to be about 90 seconds per song, and then invited all family to join them on the dance floor after the second song was finished! Do you think this would be something you could do?

I suppose I could take that into consideration. Thank you for the suggestion!

My friend had her biodad walk her down the aisle and had her stepdad do the first dance so they both felt included. I personally like the idea of you having both dance, just cut in the middle of the song. Have you asked them what they want to do?

I'm doing a separate dance with both.

I haven't asked them only because they will both say it's what I want. I personally feel as if it all should be done with my StepDad but know my BioDad would feel some type of way if I excluded him. Finally settled on my down the isle issue only to have to come up with a first dance decision smh. I just have a stronger connection/relationship with my StepDad but kinda feel obligated to include my BioDad since he has stated he wants to help with my wedding expenses

That is a thought but figured it was a little time consuming. Then again, it is my day and what I want to do so I'm really just trying to figure it all out

Yea but IMO if anyone at my wedding has a problem with watching me dance with both my dad and stepdad and my one and only wedding which is going to take max 10 minutes (and it wont because I plan on shortening the songs) then I don't want them there to begin with. I have been dreaming about dancing with my stepdad since I was a little girl and I wouldn't even consider not doing so and I wouldn't not dance with my dad since I am his only child and he would be crushed. Do you girl whatever that may be!

Since my stepdad is officiating our wedding, my real father will be walking me down the aisle. I'm very close to both of them, so I'm dancing with both of them, but we are shortening the songs to 2 minutes or less. I'll have the first dance with my real dad and end with my stepdad. Each has their own song to dance to.

I honestly could care less what anyone attending my nuptials/reception think or feel but I was just thinkin of length wise. I didn't think of shortening the songs so thanks for adding that tidbit! I have never been that girl that dreamt of my wedding but now that it is happening, I couldn't possibly not include my StepDad in every aspect. He has never saw me as a StepChild nor has he ever referred to me as one so I want to honor him in assisting with my upbringing. Like yourself, my BioDad, I'm his only girl. I have a half bro that's 15 years younger. So I couldn't not include him as well

That's so cool having him officiate your wedding! I think I'm going to go with having 2 seperate dances and shortening the songs

This sounds like you think this is the best idea, Stacey, so I say you go for it! Do you know what songs you're going to be dancing to with each of them?

I haven't figured out if I'm going to do a seperate dance with both or if I'm going to split a song. Do you have suggestions?

Well, have you asked both of them and asked if they had any preference? I mean, it is your wedding, but if you're struggling with this decision, maybe they could provide some insight on the matter.

You could also ask them for specific song suggestions and if any of them are the same, then you can use the same song and split the time. Or you can choose and shorten of each of their suggestions. (I would lean more toward two shorten songs and separate dances, but that's just me. Smiley smile )
