Example of my centerpieces

Tahoe9901, on May 13, 2017 at 3:22 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 34

I posted a picture of the rock bases I made earlier and some had mentioned they wanted to see the centerpiece put together with everything on it. Here is an example of one. Each centerpiece will look a little different... I have several different styles of lanterns and vases... and we will be using real wild flowers... not the ones in the picture. I just added these for this photo. But yeah... this will roughly be what my centerpieces will look like.

I love the lantern, the base rock, and the idea of the smaller rocks surrounding the lantern. It's all very tactile, very on trend, and organic. However, the small vase, while very pretty, is visually complicating the scale of the piece. The lantern is so big compared to the small and delicate vase. I'd suggest you use several vases together (without the lantern) for some centerpieces and then use the lanterns alone on other tables. Actually, you could incorporate those wildflowers without the vase on the lantern pieces; you just buy tiny water tubes, insert the stem of the flower (or in the case of wildflowers, several stems), and lay the flowers on the large rock. Cover the water tubes with rocks or moss. That way, you'll get a very natural look, as though the flowers are actually growing around the lantern.

    Thank you everyone!

Suggestion noted Rachel. I probably won't pair these two together... I have smaller lanterns to go with the smaller vases and larger vases to go with the larger lanterns. I just happened to grab these two cause they were easily assessable. But I will definitely play around with your idea! Thank you! The next hurdle is my cupcake stand which I am making look like rock, the same way as the bases. It's HUGE... so wish me luck! Smiley smile

Wait....that's not a real rock? I missed the post where you talked about the base. How did you do that?

Hi Nicole! I cut a circle out of styrofoam and covered it with plaster to give it texture. Then I painted it with several pigment paints that is used on model railroad landscaping. Then I sprinkled landscape turf on the top for the "moss".
