Etsy and AliExpress - my 2 of my favorite places to shop for DIY

Dreamer, on March 28, 2016 at 1:39 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

I bought my wedding gown on 3/24/16 at David's, just 6 months to the day before my wedding. I fell in love with a bridal sash. That was $99 just for a belt. So...being a DIY person, I scoured Etsy, found the identical beaded applique for $28 including shipping and handling. I then trolled AliExpress and found some beautiful rhinestone trim that compliments the applique. I'll make my own belt thank you for less than $55 and a lot more detailed than just the single applique.

I can't wait to see it on the dress. I'm going to put it higher as an Empire waist instead of my natural waist. Other than that my gown is very a plain ivory mermaid gown with a chapel train and covered buttons down the back.

Anyone else DIY'ing something on their gown? I'm thinking of making a veil or bird cage veil. Jury is still out on that.

Also thinking about doing my own belt. There's one I LOVE but it's so simple that it's not worth the $70 it's priced at.

I'm fortunate my dress already had a stunning belt which came with it, or else I'd probably be in the same boat!

Nice finds. The cost of the belts in the Bridal shops are completely crazy. I bought my belt on Amazon for like $30. I'm thinking of DIY blinging out my veil but I'm scared to mess it up.

I'm not DIYing yet but I did piece together my accessories from Etsy and other sources (my Etsy earrings are GORGEOUS).

Now I'm considering DIYing my shoes because I can't find any I like (picky picky).

    It's DIY, not DYI.

Aliexpress has worked for some folks for accessories - but I far prefer etsy, as it's easier to ensure the workers are treated fairly and the products are ethically sourced.

Thanks for the spell check. DIY Emilyg! LOL

You have to watch out for Etsy too. There is a lot of stuff from China on there that we can't ensure the workers are treated fairly.
