Engagement Pictures?

Sara, on December 30, 2017 at 4:40 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19
I am not sure I want to do engagement pictures. My FH hates having his picture taken and never smilies. I also am not too fond of having my picture taken. Just wondering if they are worth the money and what the point of them are. Sorry I don't know a nicer way of saying that.

It depends. If you do them with your wedding photographer it is a great way to get to know them before the wedding and test out if they are really the photographer that you want. FH and I don’t really like having our pictures taken either but we wanted some nice pictures of us together. We don’t regret it at all.

We also don't like having our pictures taken but it was good practice for the wedding. We also used them for save the dates. I also did trial makeup and hair for the shoot.

If you plan on having the same photographer do your wedding then I would highly recommend them. We’re so thankful we had ours done because not only did it help us get comfortable with the idea of having our picture taken, but it gave us 200 beautiful pictures that we wouldn’t have otherwise had. It was worth it for us and many wedding photographers include them in their package so you should ask.

I was nervous for how we would do in photos, but once we met with our photographer it put us at ease and actually looking forward to wedding pictures. The photographer made us feel comfortable in front of the camera. I would say it’s worth it just to get that feeling. Also - some photographers throw the enagagement session in complimentary or for a minimum cost and in that case especially it’s worth it. If you do decide to do them, talk to the photographer, but maybe it can be more of a candid session while you and your FH are doing an activity you love to do together so it doesn’t seem so posed and stressful.

We took some xmas photos. I specifically didn't tell the photographer they were engagement photos so all the reasons you listed. That the very end we took a few more engagement poses but that was it. It is a nice way to get to know your photographer a bit. As mine said, you will see my face all day long!!! But do what you are comfortable with, they def are necessary.

We will be taking them because my fiancé and I do not have any nice pictures together or really any pictures together. So we decided to do the engagement session just to have some pictures together.

My husband was adamant of not having them done, and I could take or leave them. The day of our wedding was the first day my husband met our photographer (out of state wedding- my mom and I handled most of it), and we still got beautiful photos.

We didn’t do engagement photos for the same reasons you don’t want to. We also knew we weren’t planning on having pictures on our STDs, so there really was no point in us having engagement photos done.

We have met with our wedding photographer after doing a ton of research on their work, and will be meeting with them again once more before the big day. The “trial run” aspect of it just wasn’t a necessary expense for us.

If it doesn't come with your wedding package I'd say it's not necessary. It's a great way to warm up with your photographer (especially if you aren't used to having your photo taken) but if you won't use the photos for anything then you aren't really missing out in my opinion.

I was on the fence too, but I'm glad we did it. We got a chance to get to know our photographer better, and got to practice posing/getting comfortable in front of the camera. We also learned what not to do. lol. I have about 20 gorgeous but unusable pictures because FH's hand is on my butt. I didn't notice at the time and neither did the photographer (or he just didn't know how to address it. lol).

We had engagement pictures taken but my FH didn't mind at all and it was fun for us. We used a picture for our save the dates and we displayed a few in our home. If anything, it's nice to have professional photos of you rather than all cell phone pics etc. if you get a package that comes with them I'd use that time to get to know your photographer.

Most packages include engagement pictures, so if you don't want them just ask if they have a cheaper package that doesn't include them.

I would have liked to do them, but we didn't because we had a relatively short engagement (7 months) and our photog was in my hometown, where we got married, which is 6 hours from where we live. There was never a good time to schedule it, and I know my H wouldn't have been into it either. So I never pushed to do it.

We had engagement photos done. we were unhappy with a photographer we had hired 17 months before our wedding-poor communication, uninterested in working with us, put down shoot locations-so we reached out to another photographer to help us decide which photographer. The second photographer was amazing; We liked her work ethic, and really bonded with her because of shared culture. During our engagement shoot we learned how to be in front of the camera, and it really helped us on our wedding day to be in the zone of familiarity with her.

We’re only taking them because it’s included in our package. We aren’t using them for STDs or anything, but I’ll probably add one or two to our wedding website. For me it’ll be a good opportunity to get more comfortable being in front of a camera (we’ve never had photos taken together other than awkward fam shots or selfies) and to get more comfortable with our photographer and her shooting style. It’s an hour session and I will be happy if we can get literally 1 frame worthy photo out of it haha.

Oh, to add, we used the photos and made an engagement guest book using Artifact Uprising. We had a couple printed and framed and had those at our wedding.

We aren't doing them as we don't really see the necessity for them. We aren't putting any on the STDs and we both hate getting our picture taken. The wedding day will be enough for us. haha. I also find them to be a bit corny, but that's just me. Our photography package is also cheaper because we cut out engagement photos.
