Engagement Party: Ideas Needed

Jennifer, on June 3, 2013 at 8:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hi Ladies,

My parents our 'hosting' our engagement party next Friday and I need some ideas to differentiate this party from any other party.

I say 'hosting' because the party will actually be at the new home of my FH and I, however they are paying for food and handling the RSVP's.

We printed & mailed a cute postcard for the invitation and plan on having catered deli trays, cheese trays, other apps, and desserts. Of course we'll also have mixed drinks and champagne. With approx 40 guests it is just a casual gathering of our friends and family with a wonderful excuse to celebrate.

Without going overboard, how/what do we do to give this party an "engagement party" vibe to set it apart from any other house party?

Are there games we should play?

Any tips are greatly appreciated!

At our engagement party we played a game called, "who are we"?

It was an ice-breaker guessing game. I got name tags and wrote famous couples on them.couples can be real, tv characters, cartoon characters, biblical, etc. As people came in a name tag was placed on their back. They had to go around the room and ask yes or no questions to try and guess who their famous couple was. It was a big hit. People even started making their own once everyone guessed!

It was a great way to get the friends and families to communicate

    some couples we used:

    fred & wilma flintstone

    adam & eve

    barack & michele

    will & jada

    Luke & Laura

    you get the idea :-)

The engagement parties I have been to have been just dinner and drinking and hanging out. You don't have to play games, unless you want to!
