Dress Shopping Disaster

Lauren , on June 15, 2018 at 11:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 16
Help !

I recently went wedding dress shopping for the first time and left feeling completely frustrated and upset. I know exactly what type of dress I want, but the two bridal shops I went to barely carried any dresses I could fit into to try on. And I’m not huge. I’m really not. I’m a size 16 normally. And I completely understand that wedding dress sizes run super small. But the fact that they only carried a few big enough to fit me was really disappointing. And I left feeling really bad about myself. I am trying to lose weight but I have to order my dress in the next two months and now I’m paranoid that nothing will fit when i go. The attendants kept suggesting i try something on just for size which I understand but I’m also the type of person who doesn’t want to order a dress when I’m not exactly sure what it will look like on me because I couldn’t try it on beforehand. Am I thinking too much about this?

If you haven't already try David's bridal they have a large selection of size and dress styles. That where I bought mine. And depending one the one that you choose they can order a "fresh one " or get one off the rake and walk out that day with your dress.

Just relax, don’t take it too seriously and have fun! I went to 3 boutiques before finding my dream dress, so I know the feeling. Also, keep an open mind. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted and left with the complete opposite. And yes, dresses run extremely small. I’m a street size 8 and ordered a size 16 dress. You’ll find the perfect dress, don’t feel bad about yourself or give up!

I agree to check out David’s bridal. They have a lot more inventory than the smaller boutiques are likely to carry more in your size. I also encourage you to try on a variety of styles. I went into dress shopping thinking I wanted a mermaid style that was more form fitting. My mom actually encouraged me to try on some different styles and I fell in love with an a-line. I wouldn’t have ever guessed that’s what I would have picked out.

    Youll find something!

I'm a plus size bride (street 20) and David's was really great. I had a lot of options to try there. I also recommend seeing if you have a plus size bridal salon in your area. Even if you aren't PLUS size, they'll still be more likely to have more options for you.

I actually did try David’s bridal! I went there and then a boutique store. David’s bridal definitely had more options than the boutique.

I definitely am keeping an open mind because you just never know! But I keep falling in love with the same style of dress 😂 so I’m booking appointments with several other boutiques and I know I’ll eventually find something.

Thank you! I did try David’s bridal but I just wasn’t impressed with their stock at the time. I’ll be going back again in September as the consultant told me they get new stuff in August.

Thank you! I just found one in Philly and I’m making an appointment! I think I’ll definitely have more luck there than at a typical boutique.

Don't overthink it.... I'm a street 6 and had to get a 12 dress. Wedding dress sizes are straight from the devil!! Try boutiques that cater to plus size. There are many around. I don't advocate for Davids bridal because I personally don't like them. Look at the designer Stella York website she has tons of plus size designs. Find where they are sold. It will get better!!

I'm sorry that you had this experience. I completely understand asI'm the same size as you... Are there any bridal stores near you that specialize in "plus" sizes? That's where I eventually found my dress. It's so much more helpful tobe ale to see the dress fully on and not bummed around one's hips! It is awful that traditional sample sizes run so small!

This was me last weekend. Have a look online at Azazie. They have a sample program where you can order a couple of dresses to try for 7 days, and they have the whole range of sizes. I had 2 come the other day, and there’s 2 more I want to see...I was able to get samples that were even a little big on me Smiley smile

Just make sure you try on all the different styles at a store so you know what fits you best

Go to David's Bridal they have plus size, that's where I'm going. I'm a size 8-10normally but sometimes can wear a 12 depends on who makes it. I dont want my feelings hurt so I'm going there. Go one more time. Make the appointment.
