Dress Regret 3 Months Out!

Danielle, on May 23, 2018 at 9:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Help me!!

I ordered my dress back in September. Since then I have lost about 15 lbs but probably 6 inches off my waist (yay for hiit and weight training!). My dress does not fit me. Beyond that I also just don’t love it anymore. My body has changed soooo much.

Advice!? Should I get a new dress!? I KNOW I can easily find one off the rack because truthfully I’m not that picky. Or should I get it altered and hope I like it after?

I just know it will be easier to sell it if I don’t alter it, but my mom and sister insist I alter it and “deal” with it.

thank you!!

Maybe have them pin it up as much as they can to show what it'll look like now that you're a different size. But don't walk down the aisle in a dress you don't like anymore. I'd hate to spend more money but I think I would in that situation if I didn't like my old one

I would take the dress to an alterations place and do as Lakin suggested. Plus, the alterations person will be able to tell you if alterations are even possible without destroying the structure of the dress. They can also give you an estimate of the cost.

Do you have a picture of you in the dress now so we could give you honest feedback on how it looks? 15 Ibs and 6 inches could be the difference of even two sizes so there may need to be major alteractions (which can be costly too). If you didn't spend a lot on the dress it MIGHT not be worth it to keep and alter it, but you also won't get close to the paid price back in resale!

I had the exact same thing happen to me! You are what’s important on your wedding day, and you need to feel comfortable and beautiful. I attempted alterations but $400 and they still couldn’t make the bodice fit. I bought an off the rack dress (I paid bc I didn’t want my mom to pay for a dress twice) and don’t regret it. Make your own choice of course- but make sure you really love your look!

Yes alter it then it will shape and form to your new body. Of course you don't like a dress that doesn't fit anymore. Altering can make a looser gown tighter in the hips..or removing straps or something as simple as that can really change the effect.

Six inches off of your waist will be intense alterations! I would see how it looks pinned and get a ballpark estimate. The alterations may not be possible or very expensive.

Hi Danielle! If you have fallen out of love with it and desire an entirely different style, you should definitely look for an alternative selection! I see your wedding is next month; what have you decided to do?

Definitely talk to a seamstress. According to your profile you are 45 days out so you are cutting it pretty close if you want to find something off the rack that won't need a single alteration. See what they can do with yours. You loved it when you bought it and I bet if it was fitted to your new body you'd love it again

Congratulations on your weight loss! I would look in the stores to see if there is anything that you like better than your current dress. You might be able to alter your current dress, but if you have fallen out of love with it then I would look for a new one (assuming it's in the budget)
