doc for ceremony/reception in same location

Keri, on April 20, 2019 at 7:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi everyone. I've read a lot of your advice about hiring a DOC. However, my ceremony and reception will be at the same venue (shout out to any Grand Rapids, Michigan brides). The venue is all inclusive with tables, chairs, centerpieces, flowers, DJ, catering and bar staff. We are not having a large bridal party. Just one member on each side. That being said, I'm not sure if a DOC would be necessary in this case. Please let me know if I'm missing something. Thank ladies. Love reading all your advice!

If the doc is included, will they refund you any money of you dont use them?
You didn't say how many guest you'll have. That to me determines how needed a doc is. You dont want to keep looking at a clock and run around and make sure your timeline will be followed during the ceremony and reception.

Oh good point. Guest list should be between 110-130 depending on out of state family. I know they have staff/security onsite but never mentioned a DOC. Guess I should have asked if that is the same thing. Thank you!

I think a DOC is good regardless to help magnate guests and communicate with vendors

I’m having a fairly simple wedding all at the same venue (if it’s rainy or too hot, it’ll even be all in the same room) with a small bridal party and simple decor... and I’m still having a DOC! I think it’s so worth it. There will be so many little details and things to do and remember that she’ll be able to take care of so I can just relax and enjoy my day.

I hired one to give me peace of mind that somebody knows what I want and can help with setup and teardown.

I agree to start by talking with them to clarify how things usually work there. Daughter's wedding was at an all-inclusive. The venue event coordinator oversaw the set up (including things like the favors at the place settings, etc.) beforehand, managed the processional (cuing the DJ, and bridal party members, etc.), and oversaw everything related to the venue. When she left just after dinner was served, the banquet captain was in charge of the food & beverage service, etc. The only things we would have been responsible for was making sure personal belongings got packed up and removed at the end of the night (e.g, cake top, card box, gifts, decor items, etc.). As the MOB, I didn't want to have to worry about that, so we ended up contracting with daughter's florist to take care of it. If your contract doesn't specify EXACTLY what services the venue will provide, I'd clarify that first. If they don't take care of things that will need to be done, if at all possible, I'd hire a DOC so you and your family & friends can fully relax and enjoy the day.... It's going to fly by as it is and none of you will want to miss out on the important stuff because you're worrying about set-up/take-down/etc. Good luck!
