Do we need more food?

Steph26, on May 24, 2016 at 1:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

I'm having a mid-day reception, serving lunch at 1:30. We're expecting it to last through 6 or 7pm. We have to be cleaned up and out of the park by dusk.

Like dinner receptions where they have light apps later in the evening, should we plan for additional food around 5pm?

What type of food should we be considering?

Maybe something that people can take with them, like a snack from your area (for us it would be something like soft pretzels and a soda or something!).

If you are having cake/desserts, it's not completely needed.

    It's a Sunday wedding.

We race the night before, and that goes until 11-12pm or so. Most of our guest list will be at the racetrack with us.

We're having a barbecue type lunch w/sides and a fully stocked dessert table with misc options (cookies, bars, mini cupcakes)

Why can't it end at 5? If I were expected to stay until 7, I would expect dinner or at least a heavy snack. 1:30-7 is a really long time.

We had a lunchtime reception as well and served a full meal plus dessert, everything ended by 4pm. We had an after party at another location that started around 6-ish and provided apps like various flatbreads, heavier hot dips (like spinach artichoke), cold dips (salsa, guacamole), calamari, and had an entire tier of left over cake available. Everyone that came was definitely hungry again by that time and ate what we had to offer throughout the evening...so I'd say yes, it would be a good idea to provide something else later in the evening for people to snack on...light bites, more casual food would be ok I think.

^Whoa? Food is booked, this would be additional snack type food.

No one is expected to stay until 7. Lunch is being served, desserts, and a reception. People are free to leave as they please.

I think ending at 5 would be more appropriate. That's a long ass day.

I expect people will start to trickle out around 5pm (it is a long day). For those that stay, it might be nice to offer something along the lines of mini pizzas, sliders, chicken wings, etc. If I am drinking all day I would definitely want food by 5pm, even if the lunch I am served at 1:30pm is heavy.

If additional food is in your budget then the answer is usually yes!

I say yes! I get so hungry, and when I'm at places and there ISN'T food there, that's basically all I can think about until I get food.

    Snacks would be IDEAL!

More food is never a bad choice especially if people are drinking

Ah - Ice Cream bar was originally on my list, and was nixed because of weather.

Since we'll be outside and I get queasy thinking of any mayo type dips; are light sandwiches, cheese/sausage, veggie type trays the wrong direction?

I do have an option to bring in a mini donut truck.

I think something people can grab on the way out at 5pm or whenever they decide to leave would be good. I'm planning to do this anyways because I am always hungry after a night of drinking, regardless of what I ate for lunch or dinner lol. ELK had good suggestions.

    Thanks everyone.

I'll take a look around and see what type of foods I can have catered in that fit the snacking type category.
