This is based on your personal preference and budget. I don't think you "need" 2 photographers and I did not have 2, but I have heard from other couples that they were glad they hired 2 photographers because they are able to get different views of the same thing (first kiss for example). I had 1 photographer for 7 hours and that was plenty of time and I got close to 800 photos that gave me more than enough pictures of my favorite moments, etc.

It is definitely personal preference. We are using two photographers who are a husband and wife team. They are going to be able to get different angles for those special moments; i.e. if you're doing a first look, ceremony - entrances, during your vows, first kiss, reception - first dances and cutting the cake.

Ours are going to split off in the first 30 minutes we have them; the husband going to the venue to meet my FH, GMS, and his parents for pictures and the wife coming to my parents' house to get pictures for my family. They are going to coordinate my arrival to the venue so we can do the first look.

I don't believe having two is a need but it is something I wanted. So it's something my FH and I decided to spend a little more for. But pictures have always been at the top of my list of important wedding expenses. What do you think works best for your day?

My photographer recommended a second photographer for the ceremony and early parts of the reception. As others mentioned they will be able to get different view points and example being one will capture me walking down the aisle while they other captures my FHs reaction. I was able to customize my package so the second one is only there for a few hours which helped me save.

We’re opting in for two photographers because we’re being extremely budget conscious with our videography. We also plan to take pictures during the cocktail hour and would need a second photographer to take pictures of the guests during the cocktail hour. Plus, we may have “getting ready” pictures, which would help to have two photographers since we’re getting ready at two different locations

Luckily my fiance and I were blessed to get two photographers for a great deal. We are blessed and see that it will be a great advantage for us. In any other scenario, we would have been perfectly fine with just one photographer. Usually having two photographers is a lot more pricey, so keep that in mind too, if you are considering this!! We had just one, but we got ready together, and mostly wanted photos of the ceremony and formals afterward anyway. If you want shots of both you and your groom getting ready, you'll need two photographers.

Thanks everyone. I think besides the venue, photographer searching is hard

I have a package deal that includes 2. I have one for 8 hours and the other for 2 hours during the ceremony and to take pictures of my guests while I'm busy taking our pictures

DO IT. So worth it. Thankfully, our photographer brought an assistant. I think our 1st was there for 4 1/2 hours & the 2nd was there for 2 hours. While 1st took first-look & family pics, 2nd took decor photos. Both took great ceremony pics. 1st took family pics & 2nd took guest pics. Then both captured some cocktail hour pics, & 1st shooter stayed until dinner was served. We got over 1K photos!

I had two and loved it! I haven’t seen my photos yet and had an extremely small wedding (we eloped so it was 4 guests and us for 6 total) but it made me so much more relaxed. One specialized in posed photos the other in “lifestyle” photos which are more candid and all the details. Even in just the few raw images they showed me in the car on the way to the next photo site I knew it was worth it. The posed for my classic bridal portrait and the lifestyle got my social media glam look and it’s the exact same moment just a different angle. After having seen my sisters wedding who just had the one photographer she wishes she would have splurged for both.

We are having 2 photographers. It will be nice for one photographer being with us girls as we get ready and one with the guys as they get ready.

They will also be able to concur more pictures like first look, ceremony, details, and etc. Our photographer recommended that we do because we are having some what of a bigger wedding. (73 people) and it will be easier for her to get everything.

We personally will only have 1 photographer. She will be in charge of the ceremony and then 2 hours worth of the reception before she turns into a guest (she's someone I went to college with and kept in contact with)!

My great aunt will more than likely have her camera there so technically we will probably end up having two but right now we are only planning on one!

I think it would depend on the size of your wedding and size of your venue as well as the styles of shots that you are looking for! For example, our venues are on the smaller side so it works out that we only need 1 photographer. She is also setting up a camera that will record our wedding so that we can remember each others reactions!

We are having two photographers, a husband and wife team. Also for an amazing price. We have them for four out of the five hours of our venue time.

Talk to the photographer you like about it. Everyone one uses the second differently. For example, the one we're likely to use uses the second to get different angle during the ceremony, divide and conquer getting ready pics, and capture more natural moments during the staged photos. A lot of it is that while the lead photographer is organizing and staging, the second can blend in and take those priceless candid moments.

When you interview photographers it doesn't hurt to ask to see photos taken specifically by the second, to see if it's really worth it.

P.S 2 photographers was a must for me, but the photographer was also always going to be my splurge.

We have 1 photographer and her assistant, for 8 hours! We had the option to add one, but she said people rarely do and she never gets complaints for how many pictures.
