DIY backdrop... has anybody done one? need help!

I am building an arch out of willow branches that I will attach an antique chandelier in the center of the top so it can be illuminated. I am doing this in case it rains and we have to move the ceremony indoors at least it will be lit.

So this started as a backdrop. I decided I liked it flowing from the backs of the ceremony chairs and use the garden ceremony space as my backdrop you get the idea though. If you go this route, ribbons ain't cheap. So search for coupons and wait for sales. We found out that FBIL's wife is prego an having a girl, we're recycling it into the baby's mobile so it worth every penny

We were going to make this but our venue has a curtain rod that we can use.

I sort of wish we had tried. Our venue is charging us $800 for a backdrop. Definitely worth trying to do ourselves but we just went with it to save the hassle.

GrayCatVintage: I wish I could just use an arch, because it's easier to make or find one cheap. I mean I could use an arch, but I still have issue of it looking odd in the space that it's in. The problem is the space is next to another room, and there is nothing to separate us from that room.

Calcat: Thanks for that link! But now wondering what to use as the "back" and how to get it on to the PVC.

It may be a little difficult to see in this picture, but we will be standing in the space in the very back, in front of those two palm trees. (The trees will be removed, unless we want it there for framing. The chairs and tables will also be gone, of course). As you can see, it will look weird with us standing there without a backdrop of some sort to block us off from the space behind us.

Any ideas??

If you use strips of fabric instead of ribbon it would probably be cheaper. Even better if you can find clearance fabric

Where would you buy the frame part to hang a backdrop from? That is what I am having trouble with. I have some nice fabric and an idea of what I want to make, but no way to hang it up.

Before you buy anything to try and make it, check that the venue will allow that. Their insurance might not allow it.

Have you considered do something simple like a set of Rustic Shutters, old door, Floating ornate picture frames...

or maybe a beautiful extra large Mirror that you can then use in your home
