Dessert Reception Food? What would you eat?

FutureMrsMerritt, on July 17, 2015 at 7:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

Haven't been on in a while, have become more of a lurker, but here I am! Need some advice please! I am having a dessert reception. My cake flavors are chocolate with espresso hazelnut buttercream and white chocolate shavings, Italian cream cake with rum pecans and walnuts, vanilla cake with white icing and Oreo crumbles. I really wanted to do ice cream but have no way of keeping it all cold long enough since we are not going with a caterer anymore (my sister is a baker.) What other desserts should I do? Should I keep it simple and do cookies and brownies and do different assortments? Or do all different types of stuff? What would you want at a dessert reception?

First off, yummmm. Second, cookies and brownies sound good. What about pies or tarts? I would even do donuts (kind of out there and different but just as delicious)

My suggestions, more crunchy snacks like chocolate covered pretzels, those chocolate hazelnut rolled waffle straws.

The cakes sound delicious. I would add some fresh fruit or fruit tarts, coffee drinks, and leave it at that.

I like the idea of fruit dipped in chocolate, as well as something crunchy like chocolate covered pretzels. could you do a chocolate fountain with marshmallows, pretzels, pineapple, etc?

That chocolate cake sounds amazing! Maybe also a fruit thing and some coffee/tea/lemonade?

    Edit: Do what annakay said.

Definitely fresh fruit. My Mom is diabetic, so fruit is our go-to dessert. Since we have a lot of nut allergies, in our family, we never do anything with nuts.

The cake sounds amazing! I would say fresh fruit, canolis, cheesecake, cookies and chocolate covered fruits.

If you are making everything yourself, I would say that chocolate cover pretzel rods are super easy to make and can be nicely decorated with nuts or sprinkles in you colors. They are way easier to dip than regular pretzels. If you are dipping fresh fruit, it has to be day of, but you could do dried fruit like apricots in advance. I've been making chocolate candies since I was a kid.

I would definitely try to mix in some fruit and some saltier flavors as PP have suggested. I second the chocolate fountain suggestion if feasible.

I also like the idea of SOMETHING salty - maybe chocolate covered peanuts/almonds. Or a fruit and cheese tray. Honestly, I'm not much of a dessert person (would much rather eat my way out of a bag of Cheeto's), and would have one of something and that's it. If there were fruit and cheese (and maybe crackers), I'd be all over it!

Ok I'm glad I'm not coming to your wedding! That's a dream lineup of sweets! I would walk away gaining 10 lbs and a few cavities... THATS A GOOD THING!! I like the ideas of adding some pies or tarts!

This is one of my favorite weddings on a practical wedding. The bride and her family baked everything. Lots of cookies, mini cupcakes, cookie bars....
