Coordinator or not?

Ashley, on September 6, 2018 at 3:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
So, do you actually need to have a day of coordinator? The ones in my area are so expensive! Anyone have their wedding or are planning on having their wedding without a coordinator?

Check with your venue. They may include one. Every one I have seen has said a DOC is a must!

They do not require one and they do not provide one!

Hey Ashley!!! Welcome to WeddingWire!!! Smiley ring

A day of coordinator isn't necessary, but it is helpful. And, as Haaley said, some venues provide a coordinator that will guide the day's events. Some people ask a family member or friend to do the same tasks, but I personally think it's a little unfair because then that person doesn't get to enjoy your wedding like everyone else does.

If you have the funds, I think it would be a wise investment. That way, you don't have to worry how things are going or if something goes awry and you're not putting that task on a family member who's trying to celebrate you and your FS. Smiley smile

I think it really depends on what kind of help you have too. My MOH is a super planner like me so I trust her to help with my day of tasks. I made her a list since we are both list people. If you do not have someone you can trust to help you, I would consider a DOC.

YES YES YES. If your venue doesn't come with one, I tried to budget for one the best you can. They are amazing and you'll really notice the difference. I noticed I found cheaper DOC on Facebook in local wedding pages, usually just starting at so they had cheaper rates.

WORTH IT. My venue provided a DOC but if they didn't I'd definitely have made room in the budget for one.

They make sure the day runs smoothly. You don't want to have to worry about anything on your wedding day and you also don't have to have to assign jobs for family members.

When searching for a DOC make sure you understand what they are offering you. Some include decorating while others charge extra.

We almost didn't get one. I wanted one, but it wasn't in the budget at first.

It ended up being one of the best things we could have done. We didn't worry about a thing. We didn't set up, tear down, make sure things were going well while dancing. Nothing. Showed up, did our thing and left.

    Personally, yes. Get one.

I didn’t and it’s my number 1 regret, if I could turn back time, I’d put that as a MUST HAVE. Without one, everyone comes to you for questions and it makes everything more stressful. Even though I survived , I’d say I would’ve had a much better time if I had a DOC, cut back on other things if need be.

I'll tell you what, I have had a coordinator this entire time planning and I do not know what I would have done without her. I have a feeling that I will not have a single worry on the day of the wedding. I wouldn't even attempt it without her.

I didn't have one and don't regret it. Our venue had a venue coordinator, someone who set up the tables (we didn't have a florist), checked in with the DJ and coordinated clean-up. Our venue was a restaurant, so this person was basically the restaurant manager. Other than that, it was me, family and friends. We were able to drop our decorations off the day before and decorate the church (but we didn't have much for either). I had a timeline, shared it with my photographer, and she kept us on schedule. I told my family when and where to show up for pictures (they did). A DOC would have been helpful, but we had a pretty low budget, and it was an easy thing to cut and was unnecessary to get one.

We are not having one. Our wedding is fairly small (less than 50) and will be casual (on the beach, not in a church). The DOC's that I found in the area started at $1000. That is $20 extra per person cost to our wedding. Nope, not doing it.

If you are the kind of person who wants everything exactly according to your timeline/plans, then I think you better get one. If you are kind of whatever about it, then skip it.

DEFINITELY! I thought it would be such a waste of money but after finding one and reviewing everything that she will be able to help me with leading up and the day of, I am at ease! They are so helpful and make sure that there is no stress for you the day of. Our DOC was not necessarily in our budget but I made an exception because I knew I needed someone to be in charge. The big deciding factor was me was how I did not want anyone in my family or bridal party to have to handle any mishaps the day of. The DOC will be able to make sure everything is going smoothly behind the scenes!

As suggested you can look into budget bridal groups on facebook. You can also try handles on instagram, search through vendors on WW (use the filter for least expensive) & wedding shows! Some vendors may even offer some discounts with the fall season approaching.

Worth the cost!! (And our wedding hasn’t even happened yet)
We did it initially so no one would be coming to us with questions on the day of. I’ve made sure all my vendors know who she is and that she’s the go-to person. Many of them were so glad to hear I hired a DOC, because in their experience, it helps a lot.
