Cookies and Hot Beverage Station

PurdyAikey, on August 22, 2018 at 6:53 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 49
We are having an outdoor wedding in the middle of winter (at a location about 30 minutes from the Reception) there is about 2.5 hours in between ceremony and cocktail hour because we are not doing a first look, and the sunsets so early in winter. At the location that we are having our ceremony there is a little lodge, and we are thinking about having a cookie/hot beverage station, so people can warm up and they have some place warm to be before heading to the reception. My question is what kind of cookies/snacks do you think I should have? We don't want this to cost a lot or be labor intensive. We are from NM, so biscochitos will be a must, but does any one else have suggestion for easy cookies to buy (or bake) in bulk? We were thinking about famus amos (sp?) pouches, but don't want to be too tacky/informal. We will have coffee, hot water (w/ tea and coco mix), water bottles, and probably soda or something. Anyone have thoughts or advice?

I would order a bunch of different kinds of cookies from a local bakery.

Thanks! We don't really have a local bakery (maybe I can ask the grocery store), and we are trying not to spend too much on this. I am looking for cheap ideas.

We love the cookies from Costco. Maybe you can place an order with their bakery.

We don't have a Costco (the closest one is about 2 hours away) and Sam's is about an hour away. Small town problems!

Thanks for the links E&M! Abq is about 2 hours from where I live. I will look into seeing if someone can get someone who would possibly pick up cookies for me. Thanks for the suggestions gals! Smiley laugh

What is being served for a meal at the reception? I wouldn't want to eat cookies and cocoa before a full meal.

That is a good idea, the local grocery store may be able to help out and it wouldn't be too expensive. If you like to bake though... baking from scratch can be much less expensive than buying boxes or something because a lot of the ingredients are found in most pantries. Simple chocolate chip cookies or brownies or sugar cookies are so simple and don't take a lot of prep.

I haven't decided, but its a plated 3 course meal. I just figure putting the cookies out as a snack (cuz some people arrive at weddings starving), and they compliment "warm drinks." I hope that adults wouldn't stuff themselves on cookies, but I just want something inviting other than beverages. Do you have another idea?

I don't understand; why do you need to have a gap because you're not doing a first look and the sunset is early?

Do you really expect your guests to entertain themselves by eating cookies and drinking coffee for 2.5 hours after an outdoor ceremony in the winter? Are there hotels close to the reception venue so people can go back to their rooms, have a swim or a hot tub or otherwise entertain themselves?

Even if you don't want a first look, you can do all the other pics- bridal party, groom's party, family pics before the ceremony so you can do the couple portraits and other pics with the bride and groom in a much shorter time period after the ceremony.

Agreed. Asking your guests to wait 2.5 hours and then cocktail hour is outrageous. You don’t need 3.5 hours for photos. I would revisit your timeline.

    We're doing something similar.

Our wedding is at 1:45, we are planning on a 30 minute ceremony, a 45-1 hour "Champagne Celebration" with charcuterie and hors d'oevres. This will let us wrap up some of the pics we didnt get before the ceremony. We ARE doing a first look, though, so we should have some time to spend mingling and getting candid pics.

5 PM is when the cocktail hour starts for us, so there will likely be about 2 hours for guests to go back to their rooms and unwind/ relax.

I like your idea of hot beverages and cookies, though it may be nice to add something savory as well, maybe some salted nuts and some cheese? That isn't super complicated or expensive.

As a person that is attempting (so far successfully!) to control a medical condition with my diet, sweets are something I avoid 99% of the time.

Biscotti is always fun to have with coffee or hot chocolate? Since your wedding is in the winter, I'd just have a few holiday cookie favorites. I'd buy peanut butter & chocolate cookie dough so you don't have to make the dough. Or flavored marshmallows for cocoa?
