Closer to the date - adding things to the registry? *Recent brides welcome!*

NJ Bride, on August 10, 2011 at 3:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

For those of you getting close to your wedding date, I've noticed that after the shower a lot of the "more affordable" items on our registry are gone. We had some very generous friends/family members that bought us say 1/3 of all our kitchen items - the stuff that is $6-$20 each. Smiley smile Anyway, we still have 3 types of glasses (to go with our fine china) that are $13 each, and we want 12 of each kind, but other than that, most of the stuff left is more expensive. Should I be adding more affordable items (though we really don't need much else...) if I can figure out what to add, or just let it be? (We have about 90 gifts remaining and 150 people invited to the wedding... and one month and one week left 'til the wedding.)

I'm just concerned since with 36 of the 90 remaining being glasses... that's not giving people a whole lot of choice if they want an affordable option. Smiley winking And most of the rest is fine china type stuff which is more costly.

If you can think of things you want and will use, yes. I'm afraid we're going to run into this problem, too - there's only so much we could think of to register for. We used yourweddingpresents.com so we left open the option for contributions toward more expensive things. I was a little iffy about doing that, but there was no way I was suggesting that one person should spend that much, and I can't stomach listing something I know will sit in the box or go back to the store.

Add gift cards to the registry. Then they can buy you those, and you can put them all together to get the glasses.

Tell your parents you really would like the glasses, and if anyone asks them what to get you for the wedding, to push that item.

I just know we're already asking about 90% of the people to travel to our wedding, so I don't want to make them feel like we're asking them to spend another arm and leg on the present! At the same time... I could use a new $10 shower liner... how many people do you think will jump at that one? Smiley winking

Oh, and I HATE when people register for stuff knowing they're going to bring it back to the store... I think it's incredibly rude.

I gotta ask: do a lot of people buy gifts for the wedding day? I have seen it be more common to give cards with money/checks...just a thought Smiley smile

HryPtr10, yeah, they do. Some people are stuck on walking in the door with a box. There's NOTHING wrong with that, but I agree, there are easier ways to go.
