Choosing Bridesmaids and Groomsmen...

WWLauren, on November 4, 2013 at 2:30 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 25

How did you ask your bridesmaids or groomsmen to be a part of your wedding party?

Did you simply call them or did you come up with something creative? How far in advance did you ask them?

If you have pictures, we want to see them!

When my MOH (which is my entire wedding party) congratulated me on getting engaged. I told her I wanted her right there beside me. Nothing fancy. LOL

I just asked them. I'm not mushy. It was right after we got engaged so about two years before we're getting married.

I called them the night after we got engaged. Only one lives close. FH is the worst...I had to casually drop the wedding into conversations with the groomsmen so that he could say "oh ya, want to be a groomsmen?"

At our EP, I presented each of my girls with a bouquet of flowers that had a poem attached and asked to be a BM. I have pics but not on this computer.

Because my sister had already been MOH for me once, I sent her a card asking her to be MOH again. I didn't want to ask her in person thus putting her on the spot and making her feel like she had to say yes.

My daughters just assumed they would be in it.

FH asked his guys in person. No fanfare.

I just asked them. I had no creativity... which I regret now, lol.

I asked I don't have a moh, I love my girls all the same. I asked 1 of them on gmail chat..we talk their everyday. The other 2 I sent a FB msg. lol My daughter just assumed she is in it, which she is!

FH..called his bestman to ask him. Which was kind of funny. We assumed everyone had seen our engagement on FB but he hadn't so his reaction was funny. He asked the other 2 in person. Then is last one is his son, which I'm not 100% sure realizes he will be in the wedding. He's 11 and kind of oblivious to things.

My 6 year old son will be the ring bearer. He's happy about getting to have a job in the wedding!

I made this little box with a ring pop in it. It was fun, cheap and cute.

I asked my MOH over the phone, but it's always been assumed she would be, since we were children. I asked my sister and another friend over the phone as well, and then my other 2 BMs in person, because they live here.

Lee asked all his GMs in person, except his BM (his uncle) who was over the phone because he lives a couple of hours away. His uncle is like a father to him.

I got my bridesmaids a bracelet, flower and wrote in card will you be my BM they all loved it!

FH is a different story lol. He asked his brothers when we saw them over labor day weekend but he just called his last groomsmen last week. We've been engaged for over 2 months! and his groomsmen wife already knew he was planning on asking him.

We didn't do anything super fancy. Two of my bridesmaids live out of town, so they were asked over the phone. The other two were asked face-to-face. FH asked his groomsmen over the phone, although he did have a cute story for his out of town friend - he asked what his friend would be doing in October 2014, and his friend said he didn't know yet. FH said, "Well mark on your calendar that you'll be standing up in my wedding!" So, that groomsmen didn't even get asked, he was told!

Maid of Honor and Best Man are married, so we took them out to dinner to break the news of our engagement and to ask them if they would be in our wedding.

I skyped my sister to be my MOH and called my 3 bridesmaids. I asked them a little less than a year in advance. I didn't feel the need to do something big to ask them because I'd rather do big/little things for them during the wedding process! FH asked his brothers in person and called my little brother and I don't think he's asked his friend yet but we'll see!

Since they all live out of state I skyped them and asked. It was about a year in advance. I did not feel like i should do something big it would put pressure on them to say yes. FH asked his friends in person and emailed my little brother.

I used weddingchicks.com and made "Will you be a bridesmaid in my wedding" cards and had them printed at walmart included personal hand written letters to each girl letting her know how special she is to me and why I wanted her to be part of my special day. I then purchased little picture frame keychains and put a pic of me with the selected bridesmaid on one side and then Bridesmaid with the date on the opposite side. I wanted to ask them all at the same time but wasn't sure how to pull it off so I asked each of the 8 of them to meet me for dinner and let them each think that it was just going to be the 2 of us for dinner. Then once they each arrived I handed them all the envelope (after watching them all stare at one another like who the hell are these people and why did she invite them) and watched as they all read alone to themselves and shed tears (the letters were pretty intense LOL) then of course they all said yes! I asked at the end of August so EARLY! I just couldn't wait!

I didn't do anything special. My (only) sister knew she would be my MOH someday (I was hers), so I technically didn't even ask her to be in the wedding! One of my best friends also knew she'd be in it, but I "officially" asked her via text. I asked my brother's gf (been dating over 10 yrs) a few weeks after the engagement at a family gathering. My brother was planning on proposing to his gf on a family vacation, so I waited until he did and then asked her to be one of my maids.

As you can tell, I'm not a mushy person so it was all low-key Smiley smile
