Choosing and Naming the Bridal Party?

Amberini22, on March 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

It's now time to choose my bridal party. It is normal to have two MOHs? I would like my sister and long time BF to have the title. My FH will be having long time friend be a BM, his GF and I are pretty close but have had a rocky past. Should ask her too? Also, my FH has introduced me to a couple in the past year. We have only known them for 6 months, but the time of the wedding we will have known them for 2 years. Should we both ask them? She and I are literally personality twins and our children love each other. I have even thought about asking her, if her daughter would be a flower girl along. Last thing, how do I handle having more in my party than my FH? are more than one flower girl a bad thing? Sorry for the overload of questions, but I need all the help I can get. Thanks

From what I can gather, your wedding then is about a year and a half away? You have PLENTY of time to make this decision. Usually it's suggested to ask your bridal party less than a year out. And it's totally fine to have uneven sides!

Yes you can have 2 MOH's. Ask whoever you want, but if you're really unsure about them then don't. It will cause you more headaches than anything else and you don't need to have people as BM's just for the sake of it. If you've only known someone for 6 months, but you really want her to be a BM ask her. If you're FH isn't sure about the guy as a GM then he doesn't need to ask him just because you ask her. Having uneven bridal parties isn't an issue. It's very common now, I had 3 and my DH had 5. No one cares. I didn't even bother with a flower girl personally, and I would say 2 is the max IMO.

Being that I cant tell when your wedding is it is hard to answer this. but i am assuming that it is not for a year a half because of your times you mentioned. that being said I would definitely wait to choose your bridal party. the questions you have should be answered in time. the ones you haven't know long you can see how close you are when it is about 8 months out and go from there.

If your wedding is 1.5 years away, it's too early to ask your bridal party.

It's fine to have 2 MOHs. Don't feel obligated to ask anyone you yourself are not close to. It's also fine to have uneven sides in your BP.

You can have more than 1 flowergirl.

We're having uneven sides on purpose... I wanted my two daughters to walk together. So we have 6 girls and 4 guys. There's no issue there.

I agree with everyone else, wait until you are 12-9 months out from the wedding before you ask your bridal party. I have discovered that the number of people in my bridal party coupled with the early start time of my ceremony (11:30 am) has created a few timing issues that are difficult to manage. We'll get through it, I just wish I had thought it through a little sooner.

I asked my bridesmaids pretty early, but I also had no doubts about who I was asking. If you're not 100% sure, I would suggest waiting a few more months until you're positive.
