cheap but nice wedding dress

Tonja, on January 14, 2015 at 11:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

Hello everyone! I'm getting married in October and I don't have a lot money to spend on a wedding dress. I've seen a lot about knock off wedding gown sites and I was wondering if there are any online sites that are cheap but have good quality dresses. Please help!

I got mine from an off the rack store. They had dresses starting at $99 and the store I went to had the best customer service I've ever had. Even compared to the high end stores!

I got mine at David's Bridal and had no issues.

Craigslist and ebay and consignment bridal or formal wear stotes. Also, big stotes like Macys, jcpenney both in store and online

I've looked at Davids bridal and I wasn't able to find a dress that I just loved that didn't cost an arm and a leg. That's why I started looking at all of the other sites, but then I heard alot of horror stories about the dresses either not fitting, wrong color, or not even looking like the dress was suppose to. I found 2 dresses that I just love, but I am so afraid to order them for fear of them looking like trash.

Has anyone heard anything about the green guide website?

I'd be very guarded about buying dresses made in China - those seem to be the horror stories.

I've had brides with great experiences buying from Craigslist ($100!) and consignment stores. Also, consider bridesmaids dresses in white, ivory, or cream; or even buying dresses from a department store for something different.

It doesn't have to come from a traditional store.

I am not familiar with the particular site you are asking about, but I can tell you that for prom last year, my daughter had several friends who bought their prom dresses off of the knock off China sites- and it was a disaster!

Not one of the girls got a dress they could wear. The fabrics were terrible- truly unwearable.

Craigslist, FB, consignment stores, thrift stores sometimes, etc...

Not the most traditional of styles available but I LOVE Rent the Runway (renttherunway.com)! Definitely a few great options around the $100 price point. Their customer service is outstanding as well. I have only had great experiences with them. They are a great option for rehearsal dinner / bachelorette dress options too! For bridal, try searching the white and cream dresses for options: https://www.renttherunway.com/dress/search/colors-white-cream

I'd be really weary of buying a dress from a website you know is knockoffs. There's a lot of horror stories out there, and in the long run it might actually cost you more money. I think the other ladies suggestions are really good ideas.

Please, do not purchase your dress from a website. They post information regarding their return policy, but returning anything online takes forever. Also, what you see online will definitely not be what you'll get. I suggest you give DB another try. They do have payment plans and their dresses are on sale almost every other week. To give you an example:

    Dress #1 $349.00

    Dress #2 $299.00

    Dress #3 $399.00

Although I did not end up purchasing my gown from Davids Bridal. I had a wonderful experience and I tried on beautiful dresses.

Have you checked out preowned weddingdresses.com or tradsey? I suggest trying on dresses to find out what silhouette/style you like and giving them a look. Many of them are samples that have never been altered.

I bought dress 2 from David's and lost a ton of weight so I am considering selling it because doing major alterations will be hefty! I am glad I lost the weight and got my curves back but the dress was perfect now it's perfectly huge. It's a bridal 8 I'm a bridal 2-4 depending on gown.

There are a lot of places online you can buy gently used or brand new wedding dresses like Tradsey, once wed, pre-owned wedding lets you search by your own locale I think. Some of the dresses are used, but a lot have not been worn more then just trying on.

David's Bridal $99 sale, they actually have one going on right now. I purchased mine during their $99 sale a couple of months ago, and now the price is marked back up on my dress so I got a steal. Check them out, it's worth a try.

Look for the Annabelle dress by Jenny Yoo. It's a bridesmaid dress but also made in ivory for BHLDN and cream for Nordstrom, and it's $260.
