Ceremony musician just told us they aren't working our wedding anymore...

JaKLyn, on July 23, 2015 at 1:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

All because they forgot the Nebraska vs. Michigan State game was on 11/7 and she wants to go up to Lincoln the night before the game to hang out with friends.... WTF. So now we need to find our 3rd ceremony musician with under 4 months to go... Fantastic.

Seriously? I can appreciate the love for college football, but that's not even the same day! I assume no contract?

Where is your ceremony going to be? At a church? at the reception site? What are you doing for music at the reception?

Bogus. So they are 1/3 musicians you had planned? Are they in any way affiliated with each other? Maybe they can at least recommend a replacement? They better give you all of your money back. But really, to cancel business for a football game the next day? I would make sure to mention this in their review, it does not reflect well on them.

I had my MUA cancel on me this morning, no reason as to why other than "due to a change in events". At least she set me up with another one of their artists and they are going to give me a free trial with her, but I was very happy with the one I was supposed to have (who is also the owner).

What an unprofessional move on her part! I love football, but if you make a commitment, you make a commitment!

We have a dj for the reception. We do actually have a contract with her, that states that if she is unable to preform the tasks she's been hired for she would refund the money we've paid or would find us a suitable replacement. She said I could pick up my refund check tonight. The dj has been great to work with for the reception, but both ceremony musicians we've hired now haven't worked out.

Could you ask your DJ to work the ceremony as well? I'm so sorry this is happening!

Are there any places you can leave a review of them and mention this? That is so unprofessional! I hope you guys are able to find a replacement.

Ask your other vendors for referrals to musicians.

Or maybe your DJ can set up for the ceremony.

Is it possible to see if your DJ can do the ceremony? That is completely unreasonable for her to do. Super unprofessional! I hope you can find someone!

I agree with @Jac .. could you ask the DJ from the reception to cover the ceremony? I am sure they would charge more, but at least you know they are pleasant and you can count on them to be there and do a good job?

Ditto everyone's comment about asking your DJ.

But also, is your DJ a full entertainment company? Usually they do have live musicians you can hire right through them. If you are set on having a live musician, you might be able to get one through your DJ.

That is just bullshit. You can ask your DJ, they probably have musicians they recommend too. Ask your venue, ask your officiant (you'd be amazed how many of my couples turn to me for musicians.....) then leave a shit review everywhere you can.

AND, if they were referred by any of your other vendors? I'd let them know because this is totally unprofessional behavior.

The cost for the dj to travel to the ceremony site would be an additional $350, whereas I can hire a live musician from a few different company's here for between $225 and $350 so I'd rather go that route. Our DJ company offers dj, video, photography and photo booth, but no live music.

They were referred to us by a friend who had hired them for their wedding (and she was great). I'll reach out to some of my other vendors to see if they have any recommendations.

I would be fuming. Usually that clause in a contract is for emergencies not "oops I forgot I wanted to take a trip to watch a football game" seriously it's a slap in the face on one of the most important days of your life. What a cunt. <----yes I went there.
