Can I mail my invitations out next week?

Melissa, on January 25, 2014 at 9:00 AM Posted in Planning 0 30

Ok I'm the type of person who gets excited and then too impatient to wait. Like buying gifts at Christmas time and having to wait to give it to the person. I end up waiting but it's hard. My wedding is April 19, my RSVP date is March 23 (not sure why I picked that date but it's what's printed now). I was going to mail my invitations out on Valentine's Day (how romantic, right?) but I'd really like to mail them out now or next Saturday Feb 1. Should I just wait or can they be mailed out a little earlier??

I would wait until Valentine's Day. I think it helps responses if you have less time between them receiving their invite and the RSVP deadline.

Yeah I definitely was going to mail them by Valentines Day at the very latest and didn't want to send them too early either.

I mailed mine out with a 6 week timeframe for getting them back. I'd wait til the first week in February.

Wait until at LEAST valentines day. You don't need or want to send them more than 8 weeks out. People will be more likely to let it slip or change their response the more time you give the,

Yeah I figured the first week of Feb would be the earliest I could send them. I will try to be patient and wait until my original thought of V-Day. Thanks for all the input. I just need to be patient lol.

Melissa, they say to allow eight weeks when mailing out the invites. If you have family or friends that have to make travel arrangements, book hotel rooms etc then I would say a bit earlier is better. I am sure most already know when your wedding is but that way you have time to get in to RSVP at the time.

I have about 10-15 or so guests that are out of state.

Lol Sarah, you feel the same! It is exciting though and I just want to start getting the RSVPs whether they decline or not.

We have an RSVP date of March 8th, we have a vendor that needs a head count at least three weeks out. I plan on mailing ours around February 5th, I have feeling I'll be hunting down some responses and I want plenty of time. I am getting anxious to mail ours as well lol, we already mailed our overseas invites and have received one RSVP, I was so excited even though I already knew they were coming as they had already booked their flight Smiley smile

I just received an invitation for a wedding on April 19! I didn't think anything of it. I would rather it be early than last minute (as a guest).

I agree with the other girls. Send them the second week in Feb. It will come before you know it!

I think it's fine. I just got an invite for May 31st. I'm also battling that question. Gonna try to hold out till two months prior.

Do what you want! I already got an invitation for a wedding in July like a month and a half ago and it was fine.

I marked my calendar to send them out 8 weeks before my RSVP date so our timeline is looking like:

    March 5: Invites go out

    April 30: RSVP deadline

May 14: Final headcount due to venue

I figure this way any of our out of town guests (which makes up most of my friends coming) have plenty of time to make travel arrangements - especially considering the wedding is on Memorial Day weekend.

I figure the break between the RSVP deadline and final count gives me time to hunt down any stragglers.
