Calling all Oregonians, Washingtonions (?), and Northern Califorinians!!

Brittany, on July 3, 2014 at 1:36 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 21

FH and I are really on a budget for the honeymoon. The West Coast is the best coast, and home! There's so much of it we haven't seen. Looking for honeymoon ideas close to home. We live in Portland, and haven't explored Washington much, Central or Southern Oregon, or California. Any ideas ladies?

Come to Victoria, Canada!!! The Island is beautiful, especially if you're sort of outdoorsy.

Um yeah....we don't have passports lol. We've never had a need for them, and with my name changing, we figured we'd wait. Great idea otherwise =)

Well I'm a little biased because I live in Seattle Smiley smile

What kind of activities are you guys looking to do? Hike? Wine tasting? Foodies? Outdoor activities? Museum visits? etc.?

I think if you figure out the kinds of activities you want to do on your honeymoon that will help narrow down the choices for you.

In CA: Humboldt County or Sonoma County if you're looking to go a little further down the coast.

Go to Lake Chelan in Washington. I am from Vancouver, Canada and have been vacationing down there every summer since I was born. It is hot in the summer, the water is amazing, great beach, lots to do (fishing, cool small town stores, great food, great people) just an awesome place. You can rent condo's, stay in hotels, or camp.

Leavenworth is a neat little place east of Seattle. It's a Bavarian style town. I've only been there once and didn't stay in the town, but it's very beautiful and they have all sorts of interesting shops and wine tasting. Sometimes there's deals for hotels on Groupon there. I don't know if there's much else to do around that area though if you were looking to do a bit more exploring. There's lots of mountains and the Columbia (I think?) river is near there too, but that's all I know.

I live south of Portland and we have the same wedding date! Congrats! We are getting married on the coast and then traveling south to the Redwoods, but stopping along the way as we will be on FH motorcycle. We have also thrown around the idea of stopping at Crater Lake on our way back!

If you guys are foodies I would stick to a well-known major city then. Napa & Sonoma & San Francisco have some of the best restaurants, a killer market, and absolutely beautiful scenery. Los Angeles has a lot too but personally I think it's too busy. The downside to CA is that everything is fairly expensive.

Eastern WA has a bunch of fun things to do if you are willing to hit up several towns. Leavenworth is fun but for me it gets old fairly quick after a day or two. Chelan is beautiful and has several wineries scattered around the lake. Walla Walla, Benton City & Prosser are also some fun cities to visit if you want to drink wine. Walla Walla also has some good restaurants too. You could also try exploring some of the San Juan islands in Washington too.

I would vote San Fransico or San Diego as my favorite CA destinations. The San Juan Islands in WA or Bend in Oregon. I'm originally a Californian who transplanted to Portland about 16 years ago.

Agreeing with SAndM here too, also because I'm from Seattle. In all honesty though I would say forego Eastern WA, spending more than a day or two anywhere on the Eastside blows. Going either to the hood canal area or north of Seattle would be better, Bellingham is an amazing city with a crapton of hikes, it's only an hour and a half from Seattle and about an hour ish from Vancouver so you could explore Vancouver, and there are so many cool places within like 30 minutes of Bellingham to see, like deception pass, whidbey island, chuckanut, etc.

If you like foodie things, markets, etc and you've been to Seattle a ton, I'd also say go to Portland. They're turning into foodie city USA, they have two kickass Saturday markets, and so much beer. And if you drive, you can go down to the Willamette valley which has a ton of wineries that are in a close range, unlike the wineries in eastern WA. FH and I go to Portland probably once every other month.

If you're into wineries, I'd say Walla Walla or Hood River. FH went to Hood River for his bachelor party and we went with some other couples for a wine tasting tour. Hood River has breweries and wineries and lots of food. We've rented a house from airbnb for pretty cheap. It also has water stuff in the summer I think. I also love Coeur d'Alene Idaho. They have a big lake with boating, jet skis, hiking etc and a lot of places to go for food. It's close to Spokane which has some other activities. I agree that Leavenworth and Lake Chelan are good places to visit. Too bad you can't go to Canada, that would be perfect!

Leavenworth is fun for a quick stop over, but of youre into wine then Chelan would be great. Ive been going there every summer since I was born. We have a timeshare there. Its a smaller town but they have over 20 wineries and a few yummy restaurants.

If youre willing to drive/fly further then Walla Walla has an amazing winery selection as well amd is a really fun little town. Both are far less expensive than any of the wine country in Cali because they are less known.

How about a road trip honeymoon along the coast! You set the budget, you set the schedule, no itinerary to follow, just lots of fun. I am originally from California and now live in Seattle. Traveling down the coast is always a blast! So many lovely beaches and charming towns to fill your foodie fetishes and give you an affordable, romantic getaway. But hands down, my personal favorite is Carmel, CA. Drive a short ways past Pebble Beach to a fab restaurant sitting on a cliff with stunning views. http://www.rockypointrestaurant.com/ You won't regret it!

I too live in Portland but am from Northern California....head south! Stop in Napa and Sonoma. Go to The French Laundry. Go to Sacramenoto and eat at The Kitchen (best meal of my friggin life) ...stay at The Citizen in Sac. Wonderful. Its "our place". Eat at Ella in Sac. Have the chef do a special menu for you (call or email for set up). We loved Ella so much....umm....our daughter might share that name. Haha

    No really...that's her name....haha

San Francisco area...that's my home! Too many to list from my mobile. I will come back when on my laptop or feel free to message me! I have hotel, show and food recommendations that cover the whole bay area!

I live in Portland but am partial to eastern Oregon as that's where I grew up. One amazing, overlooked part of our state is in NE Oregon. Specifically Wallowa Lake. If you've never been there, I definitely suggest it. In fact, my brother got married there, honeymooned there, and eventually moved there. Great for all outdoor activities and very romantic. Not too far from some vineyards as well.
