Cake Bar Reception

Kit, on July 3, 2007 at 5:34 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

Has anyone ever attended a "Cake Bar" Reception? If so, how was it done? Did it appear to be tacky? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do one?

Thank you so very much for great detailsSmiley smile

The candy bar sounds like something that I will consider for/at my 2nd reception.

    I am having 2 receptions.

1 for everyone who attends the wedding 400+. The 2nd one is for our family and all of the Wedding Participants (102).

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Kit, do you mean a 'cake and punch' reception for your large party then inviting your closer friends to another evening reception afterwards?

If so, I'd recommend getting a bunch of different types of cakes, pies, and cookies from a local baker or grocery store. You can display them on pretty platters from thrift stores ('shabby-chic' style) with plates, forks, and cocktail napkins. Then put bottled juices and water in a big galvanized tin tub filled with ice to have a serve-yourself drink bar. I really like IZZE sodas because they're pretty. If you want to spend a little more cash you can always hire a caterer or staffing service to handle the bar and bring out new desserts as each cake is finished.

I don't think this is tacky at all, especially if you can't afford to invite all 400 people to the 'better' party. It's nice that you're able to do a little something for them!

I really love the idea of your guests being able to take some with them as a favor. See if you can have little satchels made in your theme colors available for all guests. Overall, I think this is a very sweet idea - no pun intended Smiley smile

This is a great idea!!! I don't think it's tacky at all, especially if you have cute little boxes or something of that sort which they can fill and take away with them.

    Hi Kit,

If the Cake Bar is similiar to a Candy Bar..I think that would be very cool. We just shot a wedding in Bar Harbor where the couple had a Candy Bar setup all night for guests to go over and grab little bags and scoop out candies from various tall glass containers. They even had ceramic white dishes that spelled out LOVE and they filled it w/ candy!!
