Brother trouble rant!!

Future Mrs. B, on September 19, 2014 at 6:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

So my brother has been on an off with this girl. I don't like the way she treats my brother and I don't like the way she treats my family. Almost as if we are below her. He has a steady job. It was a good job. But apparently not enough for her. So she left him (we thought for the final time) he went to truck driving school n changed jobs. All of a sudden now she wants back in his life. "He's doing better for himself" her words. So this makes me more upset because she couldn't stay with him "at his worst" but now he is "good enough for her" so yeah frankly I do not like this woman. They weren't even dating and he calls me up randomly out of the blue and says he's inviting her to the wedding. I told him "no you ain't" then he told me he wasn't coming to my wedding. He blew up made a huge deal. Said some nasty things etc. Needless to say We haven't talked since. It's been about three months. They are now back together. When they are together I can go months without hearing from him and then as soon as there is trouble in the relationship he would talk to me almost everyday. So now everyone is blaming me." I should basically be the bigger person and invite her. I'll regret not having one of my brothers for my big day" but why can't HE be the bigger person and respect my wishes and just come without her! So frustrating. Oh and I get married in a week. :-( End rant.

Immediate family/bridal party typically get a plus 1 so give him one.

my brother couldn't make my wedding because he was deployed. I could have easily ignored an annoying twat to have him there.

I agree with King. You will have so much going on that you probably won't even notice her there. But you will notice/remember your brother not being there.

My brother married a Class-A btch, and divorced her two years later. It unfortunately took them getting married for him to realize that they were toxic together. He just married a wonderful girl we adore. My uncle married a Class-A btch who left him with two young children to 'find herself', and then he married another Class-A btch - they've been married for 27 years, so you just can't guess how this will go. In the end, your brother is your brother, and if you want a relationship with him, they may be a package deal.

You cannot change your brother's behavior - you can only change yours. Invite him, give him a +1, and you will have plenty of "family only" photos that will include him and not her. Making him choose between this girl and his sister will just make both of you miserable.

I agree with you not wanting to invite her. And he should understand why you don't want her there. Talk, calmly, to him about your wishes. If he still wants her there, give him a plus one. (I'm an advocate that not everyone should get plus one's just because they are family or whatever. I think that's stupid.) But make it clear to him that your will NOT have her in any of the professional photos taken. In this case, you both may need to give a little.
