I need ideas please...we are having both a dj and a 4p band and I am not sure about the timeline. We are going to have the dj play our dance and for dinner music...however, should we have them takes turns after that orjust have dj play on band breaks? Our reception is 6pm-1am...Thanks mucho

My cousin had both a band and a DJ and they took turns throughout the night. The band would play a few songs and then the DJ would play a few songs. They worked together throughout the night and it ended up working out really well. I would talk to them and maybe have them talk to each other and see if they have any suggestions as to how to make it best work. Good luck!

First question is... what are the hours they are both hired for? Same hours? Or is the band doing 4 hrs and DJ taking over?

I usually recommend the DJ play during the cocktail hour and dinner, and through the formal activities, primarily because bands tend to play a little too loud. It's a lot easier to turn one DJ down than it is to turn down four musicians (speaking from personal experience as a performer as well).

After the band starts playing, have the DJ play during the breaks to keep some continuity and add more songs that your band may not be able to play. The DJ (usually) is a better MC than your band leader as well...

    Hope this helps!
