"Asking Bridesmaid" gift. Do I need to add anything?

FutureMrsD., on August 19, 2016 at 12:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

So I bought this on etsy as a cute and fun way to ask my girls to be on my bridal party. They pop it open and glitter and a message asking them is inside. The balloon is smaller than I expected so I wasn't sure if I should add a little something else like a bottle of wine or something. What do you guys think? I didn't want to go too overboard with this since I want to splurge on their gifts later.

That's the same thing I'm going to get to ask my bridesmaids!!Smiley smile I think it's so cute and unique. I think that's enough because it's just to ask them to be a bridesmaid, they'll be getting gifts laterSmiley smile

My only problem with this is I freaking HATE the sound of balloons popping. Make sure no one is like me.

I would be so pissed, I hate cleaning up glitter. You know people send glitter bombs to people they don't like, right? I'd reconsider this without the glitter.

@LindseyO -I've known these girls for years and I know they would love this. I also plan on making sure they're at my place when I present this to them so I will be the one the clean up the mess. Thanks for the concern!

You must do this at your home. Theirs or a restaurant is awful. Ugh glitter is the devil

@breezy that's so cute! I love how you have a disclaimer to make sure to pop outside! I was thinking of having then do that, but they all have dogs so I wouldn't want the dogs to ingest the glitter.

I sent my BMs a text the minute I got the ring. I feel like such a slacker.

I know you're caught up in the "BM proposal" scenario, OP, especially when you're more than a year out (ehhh...read the forums...you may regret the early honors being bestowed). I don't mean to rain on your parade. However, every time I hear about a bride-to-be who decides to take her honor attendants -- one at a time -- out to lunch or dinner, I smile. It's a far more personal approach (with no peer pressure to say "yes"). I've always believed that a personal, face to face invitation was far preferable (and memorable) instead of asking a group of women, whatever their financial means may be, to serve as an honor attendants amidst ring pops and glittery confetti (with all of the contemporary costs of gowns, showers, and bachelorette parties).

Pinterest can be the devil. I can't believe what they have successfully foisted on independent, educated, brides-to-be. Ring pops and sticky poems are for kids, and those tiny bottles of booze are for nobody besides the long bearded guy hanging around the dumpster of the local 7-11. Buy your honor attendant a drink, look her in the eye, and ask her to be your bridesmaid.

I will never understand this, and when it's done in front of a group of women who are being "proposed to", I understand it even less.

Sorry....but hey, I'm totally into your wedding planning!

Very cute how you have it now! Doing a bottle of wine or more would be overdoing it.

@centerpiece - thank you so much for the kind words! But I honestly was not going planning on them being all together at my apartment. I have 3 girls of my closet girlfriend who I am sure I won't change my mind about. I'm actually going to be asking my MoH Sunday since she is going with me to my venues open house so it seemed like a good idea to go ahead since she's already done so much for me in regards to wedding planning.

I'm bought these because all 3 of them have mentioned to me before that whenever they've been asked to be on a bridal party they were just "told" to be in a bridal party. No cute "will you be my bridesmaids" thing. So I just really wanted to give them that. I didn't think my choice of how to ask them had so many rules, nor can I believe I have to justify why I chose this as my way of asking them. I want my girls to be happy so I was wanting to cater to what they all wanted. And I felt this was a good way to make them feel special but also be fun about it.

Dogs eat worse things than glitter sometimes their own poop. Just ask your people to be your bridesmaids - no need for extra things.

My friend asked me to be a bridesmaid using one of these but I think she made it herself. She had me do it outside. It was fun! And then she gave me a hanger for my bridesmaid dress with my name on it and a bow. I love glitter but was terrified of popping the balloon, haha, but it was fun and a cute way to ask. Other friends have just asked or even said "obviously you're a bridesmaid", and I preferred this way. It added some pizazz Smiley winking
