Artificial vs real flowers

Jessica, on October 24, 2017 at 9:26 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

I was planning to use artificial flowers for my centerpieces and teal flowers for my bouquets and bouts. However, after speaking with a florist today, they can do the centerpieces for $100-$200 more than artificial. Is it worth it or should I stick to my original plan? Here's a picture of the artificial flowers I purchased. It's not complete, but just assembled for color purposes and to determine quantity. Should I return them and go with real flowers?

I should mention I'm going with a rustic/vintage look.

If you have the budget, I'd go with real. It's less stress on you before the wedding / you won't be stuck with a ton of centerpieces after the wedding

I think your original idea looks great! Use the 100-200 for something extra!

I like the flowers that you have fine enough. I think it depends on how important flowers are to you and if you can comfortably fit it in your budget. Real flowers are generally nicer but I am using fakes due to having an indoor wedding and having a lot of guests who have allergies.

I think you should stick with the fake if it is indeed cheaper (calculating in the vases, flowers, any fillers, etc.). They look perfectly fine and that money can go to something else. However, like PP said it depends on how important the flowers really are to you on your day.

It depends on how important flowers are, like PPs have said. I'm personally going with artificial because I'm allergic to flowers and don't want to be sneezing and having my eyes puff up at my reception lol. But I will probably be doing expensive artificial as it's extremely easy to tell artificial from real, and I don't want my floral pieces looking tacky. The pictures look good though.

The silks you have chosen are nice, but does your florist's quote include delivery & setup? If nothing else, it might be worth it to not have to worry about doing that on your wedding day. I'm always team real though.

I'm doing artificial with my aunt and let me tell you it is the way to go. So much cheaper, you can buy them so cheap with coupons from any craft store and the biggest thing: you can actually see them before they're done. The florist has to do everything right before the wedding so the flowers stay fresh and if you don't like it, too bad. It's so worth it and fun to do it yourself and tweak it until it's exactly what you want.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I've been having a hard time finding a florist that will only do bouquets and boutonnieres, so we may have to do all real or all ourselves.

I'd go with real. I thought I was going to go with fake, but it was still going to be expensive and a lot of work... And then I found that a local florist could do some cute centerpieces (a mix or three glass bottles at each table with some small roses, eucalyptus, and coordinating smaller flowers and fillers) for $15 a table.

And the quality is so vastly different.

Plus at the end of the night it was fun to have my DJ ask people to take the flowers (but leave the bottles!). I liked seeing all the excited women gathering flowers haha.

When I looked at a real bouquet at $700, I quickly switched to fake ($20 on Amazon). Of course, I'm a significantly older bride, and this is my 2nd time around. A real flower bouquet just wasn't as important to me this time as it was before.

Our decorator is handing all the centerpieces and other decor. We have no wedding party.

WHO on earth quoted you a bouquet at $700? Those flowers had better be plated in 14k gold

$700 for one bouquet is very steep! The florist I talked to estimated the total to be $1500-$1700. That includes my bouquet, 5 bridesmaids bouquets, 9 bouts, 3 corsages, centerpieces for 25-27 tables, and greenery and couple bouquets for other areas.

I prefer real flowers but, if you've already purchased these, I'd stick with it.
