Anyone else over plan to the point of stress?

LoveInDC, on February 4, 2016 at 11:51 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

I'm driving my FH and myself crazy. I have nearly everything planned out for my wedding. I'm months ahead of most every timeline. But I can't help going over it all again and again and it's stressing me out. I'm either on Pinterest on these forums, refreshing and refreshing trying to see if I missed anything. I know I haven't, but I'm still worried. My mom tried to help me make my own timeline. That way, I have one day a week where I work on one thing. But I can't help it. I'm reading and rereading contracts that I've signed. Reading reviews of vendors that I already booked. Research on research that I don't need. Between this and work and other activities I'm involved with, I'm spiraling with the stress. Anyone else dealing with this? How do you manage?

Hahaha Just last night I was wondering if I am developing a mental disorder over all of the planning! I am 8 months away from my wedding and I have half the vendors... but I can't sleep till I have them all! Now you tell me, you have them all and Still can't sleep... and I have a feeling I am going to be right there with you! Im Obsessive over it! I don't know how to stop! lol

Also I am a wedding photographer so Im surrounded by it no matter what I am doing! lol

I recommend wine. Seriously. Maybe not right this minute, but soon.

Step away from it. Seriously. Do it, leave it and enjoy the rest of your life with this guy you're going to marry or you'll make yourself and your family and your vendors nuts. And you know what? It won't make your wedding any better.

No one will know if you read your contracts fifty times (though as a vendor, I appreciate it when I feel like my couples actually do). If you have an issue, call them, answer it and let it go. No one is going to appreciate that you woke up in the middle of the night second guessing mango or tangerine. It just will not matter at all on the day.

Get back into your own non wedding life; this is why you're GETTING married...because you have one, right?

It will all come together (if you find an officiant that is, lol) and the day will be great. And no one, I promise, will know what you didn't get done.

I just texted my FH that I am overthinking all of this! I know how you feel! I keep changing my mind over flowers because they are so expensive but I just keep changing my mind for what i want. I highly recommend going to the gym even if you don't need to lose weight or anything. sometimes I will just go and walk slowly on the treadmill and watch HGTV till I feel better. Plus once a week we have a date night where no wedding talk can be done so we just focus on the here and now.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for all your responses. I know I should walk away, but it's easier said than done!

@Maive the madness does not end on its own! Do yourself a favor and take some of this advice with me before you go truly crazy.

@Desiree I like the idea of distracting myself. I think if I can get out of the environment where all of this information is in front of me, my mind can rest a bit. If that doesn't help, @Celia's suggestion of wine should do wonders to take my mind off it all Smiley winking

I just remind myself about the ESSENTIAL pieces of the wedding. I have a list of them, and I only allow myself to get worried about those. I'm certainly adding a bunch of other cute stuff, but if that cute stuff isn't part of my wedding, the day will still run smoothly. So try to push all of the non-essential stress out. No one will know if you don't make that DIY chalkboard sign.

I have to constantly remind myself that literally nobody will care but me on half the things I'm worried about. I was obsessing about unity ceremony jars yesterday and then it struck me that not one single person will care. I certainly couldn't care less what someone else uses in their unity ceremony. I obsessed over my bouquet and then realized I never focus on someone else's...I just think oh that's pretty, and get on with my life.

I chose the "less is more" route and I chose a venue and reception area I think are pretty. If NONE of my decorations make it there, at least we'll still be getting married and fed, which is really the goal. Like Jersey Jen said, just focus on the essentials and let the rest of it be fun.

Plus, remember that half of Pinterest weddings aren't real weddings--photographers borrow pieces (and people!) for photoshoots to stage gorgeous events that probably can't be pulled off by a real budget (and they're designed to last about an hour, not actually something that people would use and abuse!). I remind myself of this every time I see a gorgeous Pinterest wedding with floating glass candles and then I think "Really Ashley, do YOU want to hang all those and clean all those up after the wedding? Yeah, I thought not. Moving on."

I know how hard it is not to get all swept up in the planning. I feel like Pintrest is the devil of weddings. It makes you feel like your wedding wont be perfect if you don't have a donut bar or over the top table dressings. I honestly feel like if we recreated a Pintrest wedding it would cost $100,000.00. And at points I wish I could. But Celia is right we cant stress about our weddings as much as we do. I got out of bed to look at my venue contact to make sure I had the gelato bar. I am guilty of everything your doing so I am hoping its somewhat natural.
