Any Alternative Styled Brides/Grooms!?

ArizonaDreaming, on August 10, 2017 at 6:07 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9

I am what is called an offbeat bride (yes, there is a website for people like us!). I like the alternative lifestyles, like tattooes, piercings, and off the wall haircolors and hairstyles. I have 8 tattoos, half of my hair is actually gone and has been for the last year. Our theme is nerdy gamer. Our "song" is actually created and referencing video games. Are there any other brides/grooms like this other? Anyone else planning this sort of party?

(Just adding my comment from below regarding the subtle things we are going to be adding. We will not being all out on decor. Trying to have a more toned down/elegantish wedding. We are thinking of having old school video games at the heart of our decor. Mario and Link in the centerpieces. Navi from Legend of Zelda as my necklace. Little things like this.)

How do you plan to incorporate your theme? You've described yourself a lot here, but not given a lot of details about what you're planning. But lots of people have incorporated geeky themes into their weddings. There's someone who had an amazing lego cake with fondant lego bricks and I've seen tons of gaming themed cake toppers. Someone just did a Joker/Harley wedding; they might have their proBAM up soon to check out. Lots of options!

Generally, the key is not to go overboard. You want it to feel like an offbeat wedding with elements of your unique personalities, not like a kid's birthday. Little touches (like the song) go a long way.

I love the website off beat bride! It's so fun! We are doing some fun stuff too to incorporate my fh's nerdy ways(I'm true crime nerdy and that won't fit in a wedding too well) however I don't want it to be so weird that it will alienate our guests.

We have some subtle nerdy hints for us, like our first dance song is from the Final Fantasy video games (Lean On Me covered by Florence + the Machine) as well as some Japanese themed stuff as that is our honeymoon destination. I have a cherry blossom hair piece and we're probably going to get these really gorgeous origami cranes as cake toppers. We may add in some more stuff too, but I think it's going to be subtle stuff.

@Delfina -- He is a divorcee. His first wedding was a Harley Quinn/Joker theme (so I am not looking to include that in our wedding). His ex-wife didn't give him much choice on anything (she believed it was HER wedding and he was only supposed to show up). I am thinking of having old school video games at the heart of our decor. I saw these adorable and creative centerpieces using Link and Mario figurines with glasses and baby's breath, and SO likes them. He is a hardcore Zelda fan and I love Mario and Tetris. The his and her glasses are going to be designs in pixels with Player 1 and Player 2 on them. I am going to wear a Navi (fairy from Legend of Zelda) necklace. We are not going over the top, just adding little details here and there.

Right there with ya, and we are going full tilt to let our nerd flag fly high on our wedding! The grim and gents will go walking up the aisle to the Legend of Zelda theme, when the groom and I are married dressed as Link and Zelda. My BMs have bouquets that hint which Hylian goddess they are, and our invited are modeled after old NES cartridges. The ceremony itself will tone down the nerd a little, but instead of a reception, we're having a cosplay Halloween party :3 At least half of our music is video game themes and Lindsay Stirling dubstep.

@Seshanna -- Sounds like a good ole time! A little too much for my taste, but I LOVE to hear all about those sorts of weddings. I really do enjoy seeing pictures of people going all out. It gives me hope for those out there that they can be themselves and are truly happy! Smiley smile

A Harley Quinn themed wedding. Jesus christ.

    No.

Keep in mind not everyone gets gaming (you know this) so don't go over board, it gets awkward and uncomfortable for people.

Subtley is key. The more you try to be different the more forced it feels. Let the little things speak out. Otherwise it winds up shouting "look at me and how different we are"!

My fh and I have different likes and interest than most of our family and friends. I've been trying to find little things to incorporate into the wedding that show that.(even though we will prob be the only ones to understand what they are). I'm gonna have to look at that website u mentioned. Hope to see pics of your wedding!!

Just bumping to see if anyone else out there has ideas to share! I love hearing alternative ideas that are being thrown into the mix of something that is seen to be "sophisticated" and "proper."
