Annoying questions! What's yours?

Trina, on December 30, 2010 at 8:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 54

So I just got engaged on Christmas eve, and starting Christmas day everyone is asking us if we've set a date yet. Um no I'm still working on breathing after all this excitement! I mean I have a date in mind, but try telling people your waiting 3 years to get married, it doesn't get nice responses. *Sigh* I know this is only the tip of the ice berg.

So I was thinking, what's the question you get/got the most often that made you want to scream?

Trina-you have the patience to wait 3 years? Wow! Just waiting a year and 3 months is driving me bonkers! Kudos to you!

My annoying questions came from a girl that did not get that I kicked her friendship to the curb after her horrible behavior over my engagement. She's now all upset because all of our friends are coming to my wedding and she's not invited. Other than that-my questions have been surface questions on wedding planning and whether there will be alcohol LOL!

My fiancé is currently deployed for a year overseas and I'm trying to finish up college so we also have a long engagement. I have the same annoying question as you, "Have you set a date yet?" as well as "Why are you waiting so long?" It gets a tad annoying considering we have no idea when he'll be back and it's not like we can plan a wedding even when he isn't deployed since his base is in Texas and I live in Oregon. I also get annoying statements such as "O I could never do that!" Right... like that makes me feel better... Haha sorry this was a tad bit of a rant as well as an answer.

Carlina-I have been asked that too. For those I knew would never be invited or I'd only invite if I was (weirdly) desperate enough I would say "Why should I invite you to my wedding?" In the same tone someone would ask "Why should I hire you to work for this company?" The reactions would make me laugh and they would never mention it again.

It has to be the "I am on the guest list, amn't I" former co-worker - She earned herself an invite, congratulations to her, but truly, I was so annoyed by it, it damaged the friendship forever.

The best answer I heard to "have you set a date" is no we are just going to enjoy being engaged for a while.

September- Well I've only lasted 6 days so far but 3 years is the plan haha.

Kacie- That's a bummer he's so far away, it does take a strong woman to be with a service man! But I'm sure he's worth it Smiley winking And I think the topic is asking for rants haha, rant away! I did...

Oh yes the "I'm invited" I've gotten that already also! Um sure your invited to the thing that doesn't even have a location or date yet, why not *rolls eyes*

People asked Are you going to the courthouse? When they find out that I'm not the next question is Can I come? How about no. Weddings are expensive and I'm not about to invite my co-worker who I may have a three minute conversation with every once in awhile.

I'd have to say the same.. "I'm invited, right?" from most my co-workers. Problem is, I only work with 17 other people and we see each other nearly EVERY day.. Thing is, some of them I wish would just vanish from the face of the earth, that is how much I cannot stand them!!

Yeah I got the "Have you set a date yet?" right after we got engaged too. He proposed 5 days before I moved across country, so forgive me if in the first month after he proposed setting a date was the last thing on my mind. Due to circumstances involving distance and employment we still don't have a date, but I still get asked all the time. Or "What are your colors?" Um.... we haven't planned anything so I have no idea. Seriously.

Good news is I do know who the groom will be though. I wish they would ask me that! :o)

Ours is the opposite... "hey is the wedding still on?" really, how about you just say "hey I have no faith in your relationship."

I just get alot of why are you getting married in Oklahoma? (We live in Texas) Why don't you do it here, so we can all come? Um, because you weren't even on the guest list for the house party we're having afterwards... The last thing I want is you knowing where I live...

I too had a long engagement. two years! many of the same questions were asked of us and to most people our response was, " we wanted to save money and finnish school first." Just keep it simple and remember those that ask just care about you and are excited for you.

Thank goodness, we thought this through after we got engaged last December, we both decided to keep it to ourselves for the an entire year, we're making the annoucement to out parents only, next month and as for friends, we'll probably wait another 6 months to tell them. Despite them not knowing about our engagement, we still get ask by almost everyone "when u getting married?" because we've known each other since High school but we only started dating after graduation, it's been 5 years but some of then thinks we've been dating since HS. Usually if it's a friend, we just say when we feel like it or are you gonna give us the money? if it's an adult, we joke with them by asking "when's ur funeral?" lol, always shut them up
